Osmaniye was first used by the Hittites as a city. Osmaniye was an important trade center for the Hittite state. But then Osmaniye was conquered by the Persians.

After the Persians were defeated by Alexander the Great, the Persians left Osmaniye. Then Osmaniye was ruled by the Roman Empire. But Turks and Arabs attacked Osmaniye many times.

In 1080 the Turks began to settle in Osmaniye and its surroundings. Then Osmaniye was conquered by the Ottoman Empire. After the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, Osmaniye has been a city of the Republic of Turkey.
