Perfect Cartoon To Illustrate The Madness Of Nuclear War

in #history5 years ago

During the Cold War USA and Russia built an absurdly large nuclear arsenal. Both countries had so much nuclear power that it actually deterred the other from instigating a fight.

This paradoxical stalemate was known as MAD. Mutually Assured Destruction. This cartoon is from 1953. In the 1950’s until the 1970’s there was real fear of nuclear war. Thank goodness that up until now the terrible events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have taught us to not repeat these horrible strikes.
