It was estimated that over 235,000 Canadians would experience homelessness within the year In 2014 as reported by Statics Canada https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/75-006-x/2016001/article/14678-eng.htm
As the numbers for the years following seem to be hard to find I can assume they are worse most likely much worse.

The majority of all lands in Canada are held by governments as public land and are known as Crown lands. About 89% of Canada's land area (8,886,356 km²) is Crown land. >>>>>>And it is illegal for the Canadian people to live on or use this land in any way>>>>>>>> It is held for logging companies and other interests..

Agricultural land in Canada was reported at 6.8902 % in 2015, according to the World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized sources they say..

So we are at 95.8902% of the Canadian land mass spoken for ... Industrial and commercial properties will account for the bulk of the remaining 4% of the land mass and I am sure the banks hold title to almost everything left.

Hmmmm now I am no rocket scientist but I think I see an easy solution to the homeless problem here in Canada..

OPEN UP SOME CROWN LAND TO THE PEOPLE OF THE COUNTRY YOU (insert derogatory comment here) Politicians...

Wow. That's very sad.. The figure is too high. The government must do something about this.. Why hoarding a land for commercial use only?
Thanks for posting @thelifeofbrian

It's beyond my comprehension why people are not up in arms about it..

No reason why there should be so many homeless in such an advanced country

Or any country but this takes it to the point of criminal behavior.
If a country with this much land and resources cant even house the homeless in our climate there is something really really wrong..

Of course the only solution is to get rid of scarcity based economics and do away with the corrupt governments all together.

I hear in some countries they are actually making it illegal to be homeless.

And here I thought it was a crime that we see homelessness in a society as technologically advanced as we are.

I think in socialism the population is supposed to share in the wealth ...
I am so confused these days on what to call everything ... The dictionary meaning and the actions of the various groups wearing the label seem to be in conflict all the time ..
Best label I can find to suite the present situation is Kakistocracy and that seems to cover them all...
