Seed Swap - Creative Ideas for Sharing - Sponsored by the @gardenofeden

in #homesteading6 years ago

The @gardenofeden sponsored a local seed swap recently, and got to gift raffle items for this event.
Instead of just giving away seeds, I decided to create some artful pieces to share.

Here are a few of our  raffle prizes made from all free materials!!

I gathered together some miscellaneous recycled items from around our farm, seed pods, dried and fresh harvested herbs, and special bits of nature.

Then decorated a luffa sponge grown at the @gardenofeden, and adorned it with an interestingly shaped bamboo root, dried shiso, a sprig of dried mint recycled raffia and a chicken feather from our chickens.  The seeds are housed inside the luffa!

Using a dried gourd grown at the @gardenofeden, I made a simple piece with dried shisho, dried mint, recycled raffia and chicken feathers.  The gifted seeds are inside the gourd.

A broken half of a coconut shell was decorated with sprigs of dried herbs, recycled sphagnum moss, dried okra, a wasp nest, and chicken feathers.  The seeds are inside the dried okra.

A dried smudge stick made at and from the herbs grown at the @gardenofeden was tied to a suet bird feeder stuffed with a bag of herb seeds, then decorated with recycled stuffing made into a nest, and a single tiny bird feather.

A small @gardenofeden grown gourd perched on a piece of bark, decorated with a strip of recycled rug, shiso sprigs, and a found dried cicada.  Seeds are inside the gourd.

Freshly cut lambs quarter sprigs arranged in a recycled tin flower pot, decorated with used burlap, raffia and a puzzle piece.  A bag of lambs quarter seed is tucked inside the pot with a burlap lining.  Decorate the table, eat the lambs quarter, plant the seed!

Freshly cut shiso (used for salads, cooking, or activating water), nestled with a hand-tied dried shiso and herb smudge stick, and moss into a recycled tin can, decorated with a burlap strip, raffia tie, and a dried flower from our garden.

We have a lot of herbs to choose from in creating teas, smoking blends, culinary herbal blends, smudge sticks, baths, activating drinking water, aromatherapy, and for just plain decorating.  These luxuries are part of our everyday life at the @gardenofeden.

And the best part, of course, if doing it with the little garden faeries that bring such spiteful joy to everything they are a part of. This is @qiqi-power in the process of making a magical creation with a a broken, dried  coconut shell and a dried cidada shell.

We are blessed with grand abundance brought on through the vision of @quinneaker in the creating of the @gardenofeden.  Sharing this potent reality with others is indeed a blessing, one which we get to utilize daily to be of service to our local and global community.

Thanks for stopping by my post.

howdy there everlove! what a wonderful selection of art creations you've given us, these are beautiful! You are very artistic. I knew what everything was except the "smudge stick" what is that?
beautiful post!

A smudge stick is made from dried herb sprigs, (most often commercially made from sage) bundled together and tied. The end is set on fire, then the flame blown out so that it smokes. It is said to help clear stagnant, old energy from the air, around people, houses and places where a fresh start is desired. Often the smoke helps to keep away mosquitos, as well as leaving an earthy herbal smell in the air.

Thanks for stopping by again @janton.

well howdy again everlove! that makes alot of sense, sounds like a very practical herb to use in that way and I like the dual uses of it being a mosquito repellent also! Thanks so much for the excellent explanation!

Nature has so many uses and I love really engaging the opportunity to utilize it's abundance. Glad to share it with you @janton.

I'm so glad that you have the opportunity to share it too everlove, steemit is enriched by your knowledge!

Thanks @janton.
