Today was full of randomness
Runaway strawberries, visiting our friend, old tools, sprouts, and a grub.
Strawberries must be contained. Honestly if you give em an inch they will take a parsec. They put out runners that are sneaky, fast, and fertile and will spread out all around the parent plant. Every year I have to go through the strawberry rows to pull weeds and most importantly rehome the runaway strawberry plants. Like this one below that found a tiny bit of soil peaking through a hole in the plastic mulch. These all need to be moved back into the rows which is making the rows thicker and markedly fuller.
Pulling the weeds from the rows helps in a few ways but the most immediate is it loosens the soil which allow me to plant the runaways far easier. The broken soil makes for quick work and fills in nicely around the roots.
It always takes a while and is not a quick job to deal with the strawberries but it is worth it for them to get bigger and more established. Each row produces about 10 pounds of strawberries as of last season.
My Morning Glory seeds have sprouted and are looking great. All 3 types have broken the soil but the heavenly blue is the super seeds. They are popping sprouts far better than most any other seed I plant.
The family packed up and went for a ride to our freind's new place up in the hills to our north. This old house was abandoned by the death of the woman who had lived there. There is a plethora of random old shit all around the property. Our freind gave me a couple of things that were cool looking. I brought them home and gave the tools each a little personal one on one with the wire wheel on the bench grinder. The 2 tools cleaned up quickly and easily and are still use able. The big ass calipers look like they are for measuring skulls. The bar of nickel is just cool and the other tool is a mystery as to its intended purpose. It looks like a mini peening plier setup.
Yet another grub that I found in the soil. We have an eclectic mix of various grubs on the farm and I have only possibly identified a few of them.
