A mercifully quiet day

in #homesteading5 years ago

Today was a balmy 73 degrees, and I didn't have any manual labor to do, so when I went to check on the goats, I was free to ramble around and take pictures and just hang out with my boys. They like these days the best too. On fence moving day, they are annoyed and frustrated, because they know the snacks are coming, and would like me to hurry up and feed them already. I am always too tired when I'm done to spend time chatting with them afterward. When I arrived today, they were all lounging in the shade, chewing their cuds.

Screech couldn't be bothered to get up and greet me. The little ingrate.

Tupac has been limping on his front leg the last couple of days. He probably needs a hoof trimming, but he's still mad at me, so that will be difficult to pull off. They never believe me when I tell them the hoof trimming is for their own good.

Mervin was clearly showing off for the camera. I got a couple of cute pictures of him chewing his cud, but he asked me not to post them. He wanted me to show off his good side.

What the heck. He doesn't have internet access, so he'll never see these.

I left the goats alone to nap, and wandered around to see how much they had eaten in 24 hours. They all perked up, wondering what I was up to, and dragged themselves up to follow me.

They got interested in eating again and ignored me, so I did a flower tour. The blackberries are just starting to bloom! Berries in another couple of months!

Not technically a flower, but the grass is going to seed and I love the beautiful colors and textures of the seed heads.

The clover is in bloom too. Maybe clover isn't the most exciting flower, but the bees like it, and I think it has a humble delicacy that should be appreciated.

I don't know what these are. They are weeds of some kind, but the flowers are so exotic looking that I don't pull them. I just let them live.

I found a hidden rose bush next to the big pond. I can't get my phone camera to take decent pictures of brilliant red things. I need some better skills!

I made a big loop around the outside of the goat area and found them all happily snacking away, except for Toaster, who was late to the party. He does that a lot. Every time I show up I count heads, to make sure everyone is accounted for. More than once Toaster has been missing, and after the panic attack begins to subside, I will find him cheerfully browsing away in the woods by himself. Not very goat-ish behavior!

I got home to find the kittens napping on my son's lap. I will miss these little guys when they move out this weekend!

I'm glad today was calm and relaxing, because it is not destined to end that way. I have to go to the monthly board meeting of the water district, and I will be homicidally enraged by 7:30 at the latest. Deep breath.

I like all the close-up pictures the digital cameras give us. The small flowers and grasses look so much more impressive up close.

I agree! I'm still using my phone. I'm very jealous of your new camera. I'm hoping to get mine soon so I can take better close-up shots.

My new Sam Galaxy J7 phone takes just as good close-ups as the camera.

Lovely spring atmosphere! It’s a good yo have a good rest before another hard working day!

It was wonderful to have such a quiet day!

That smile!

And the kitty : )

Red is a tough one for phone cameras!

I can't figure out how to shoot red. Maybe it's just too much information for the poor little phone camera to process. I assumed it was me.

Don't worry! Just do them them anyway. They are fine :)

Awww what beautiful goats! Screech looks like a soft belly to scritch.

Love the pretty plant pics, too. I agree about the clover.

Tiny little kitten, what a delight!

I certainly don't envy you your waterboarding ugh! But I'm certain you'll handle it with aplomb
Xoxo

Thank you! It's sure been busy around here the last few weeks!

The waterboarding wasn't as bad as usual. What a relief!

Hope everything goes better than expected at your meeting tonight.

Your photos are wonderful. And I agree that clover is under rated.

How fun to have kittens to play with! Even if they will be moving on soon.

Nice photos! Reds are always tricky to photograph. If you have an android phone, you can use something like Snapseed (free Google app) to do some light color correction. It's a bit finicky, though.

Love the portrait photos - lol. Must have been a tasty salad!

Thank you! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has trouble with red! I may have to try that app.

The goats enjoyed their salad so much that they have finished it already and I will have to move the fence again!

I sometimes have trouble getting reds to come out right with my DSLR. I spent a half hour playing with the white balance on a photo of ripe tomatoes in a basket, once. Snapseed is decent for phone photos, though finding the right icon can be a bit tricky. There are some effects, though. You could do goat glamour shots!

Well now I have to try it! Just the suggestion of goat glamour shots is enough! Haha! I have been assuming that my phone camera combined with my lack of experience is to blame. Apparently we should just ban the color red and all our photos will be excellent!

Love to see you relaxing a bit, everyone deserves some down time

It never lasts very long, but it's nice when it comes around!
