Moving the Pasture Pen - July 10, 2019 @goldenoakfarm
We went out at 5:30AM to move the pen before it got real hot. We were so early, we woke up Momma Turkey and her 6 little turkets. They flew down out of the trees to within 6’ of where we were working on the pen.
Above: We’ve untied the corners of the pen, taken down all of the 3 strand fence, and part of the netting. We’ve also taken down the circus tent.

Once the circus tent sides were moved into position, we started moving each of the chicken wire sides. As 2 came together, we tied and guyed the corners. As I walked along the sides, I would move guy posts into position and pull the gather end of the circus tent over the chicken wire side so my husband could reach it.
Here we have 3 sides finished and the circus tent ready to be pulled into position. At this point, we move the coop into its first position in the pen. Then we put all the equipment inside: waterer, feeders, pigtail posts for anchoring the chicken wire down, circus tent center post, and ladder. Then we move the last side.
Here the circus tent has been pulled into position and the ropes adjusted to the right height on the sides and tension overhead. The 2 extra fences have not yet been moved into the new place.
All the fences are back up. It took about 2¼ hours to move it with those 2 fences, over the 1 hour once a week without them. But there’s been no rat or fox predation, so far.
