Homesteaders - Living Naturally, Newsletter. 6th March 2019
Lots of great things have been happening in the homesteading community recently, so it feels like an opportune time to bring back the homesteading newsletter. A big thank you @sagescrub for offering a home for it at @homesteaderscoop.
While the title says Homesteaders, the community branches into so many different areas. Whether you're a backyard gardener or living on acres, interested in natural living and medicines or prepping, crafting, DIY and food preparation, interests and communities all interlink and are welcoming and I’m sure you’ll find something of interest to you and a place for you.
The Homesteaders Co-op is the first marketplace to be purpose built with peer to peer Steem payments in mind. You can read or hear more about how it evolved here. The Homesteaders Co-op can also now be found on Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube.
Some other branches of this big community tree worth investigating if you haven't already are @naturalmedicine, @ghscollective and @ecotrain.
Things happening in the community.
@pennsif has been busy reviving the homesteaders and preppers list, updating it with active users and new users on Steem. The list is a valuable resource for connecting with other similar minded people and is sectioned by countries and regions so you can see who is in your area. If you want to be added to the list, just drop him a comment to let him know. As well as the list, he is also bringing back the alternative lifestyle show on MSP Waves. @nateonsteemit has been busy welcoming new users to Steem. This week we have a new arrival who has been blogging for a few years, but is new to Steem. @dansgardening is a keen vegetable gardener and bird watcher. His introduction can be found here and I hope we can make him feel welcome.
Some highlights of the week
@wildhomesteading has been sharing knowledge and tips on how to embrace a wilder side of gardening with self-seeding vegetables. This is right up my alley as I'm rarely organised enough to collect seeds when I should or even plant them when I should. Read more about it here
@rlewing talked a bit about when raised beds come in useful if you can't work at ground level very well, giving different ideas for those looking at building their own. Read his thoughts on them here.
@walkerland drew me into her outing as she scouted for firewood in deep snow, illustrating how homesteading often expands into foraging and wildcrafting. Join her on her journey here.
@digitaldan has been cooking up some sweet potato flatbreads. I was drooling over this variation on the plain old flatbread and really should give it a try. Find the full recipe and step by step here.
