Jacob Goes Off Grid Day 216 Part 1

in #homesteading5 years ago

This is a video from Day 216 of going off-grid. I went 'off grid' six hundred and eighty-seven days ago and it has been quite the journey since I got dropped off at this old fallow farm and built (continue to build) all my own infrastructure. I have been video documenting the entire process and have just recently begun publicly sharing some of the videos. I have been sharing the videos privately since I started the entire process which I call Jacob Goes Off Grid In The Woods.

'Day 1' is the morning after I arrived at this little place in the mountains in the 'dead of winter' on January thirteenth of two thousand and seventeen with my dogs, my wits, minimal gear and very little hard currency to work with. Slowly I have done my best to breathe life into a very old farm and give it all my best, 'learning as I go', and documenting the process as best I can. It has been quite the journey so far. @jacobpeacock

In this video it is late at night and I am in the mini-shelter while I make the video.

I talk about getting some work done around the spring area early in the day and how then later in the day the property owner showed up and said the building was on the way.

I explain how it took roughly six and half hours to get the building set in place and leveled.

I talk about how the building delivery truck and trailer got stuck while coming down the driveway. It did not so much get stuck (or make ruts) as just spin it's tires on the slick grass. I explain how some folks from down the road helped pull the delivery truck to where it could get some traction on the driveway. I explain how the delivery truck used the hydraulics on the trailer to push the delivery truck foward.

I talk about how all the materials that I put in place (in the new homestead area) for blocking and leveling the building came in handy during the building installation process.

I describe the building as best that I can and explain how it is a used building and not really all that well constructed.

As always this is just a summary of the video's content and not meant to explain everything that I cover in the video.

Wow..!!!
So am I safe in assuming your living in the building that was delivered...?
Did you get a vidoe of it being put in place..?
Sounds like it was a bit of nightmare...
Yikes...!!!!
I'm sure you'll post more ...about it.
I need to be patient. And I shall.
(:

Haha @annephilbrick! I did not get a video of it being delivered, blocked and leveled. That would have been a six hour movie in and of itself. When it was happening I worked the whole time helping the delivery folks as much as I could. Mostly the softness of the ground made the task over-involving otherwise it would have only taken an hour to do it.

On a different note I did not post anything yesterday because I was out of electricity. I finally got some sun today so yay!

Hello @jacobpeacock
No doubt you busy helping with that big project.
I thought more than likely that was the issue as to why you didnt post..
If i didnt have my truck to charge my phone I'd be down. Not hardly and sun at all for days.
(:
