Homesteaders asking a help

in #homesteading6 years ago

Okay so we started buying this place on wooded acreage with an old trailer on it. Can anybody tell me what this situation in the well house is? Why would there be 3 shut off valves? Only one supplies water to the trailer

That is very odd. Do you know if the well had at one point in time fed other structures on the property? Was there an old barn, or water spout anywhere else? maybe uncover some of the pip and figure the direction it is headed to see where the extra lines feed to.

it has to be to make very very sure that the water is turned of
its all about redundancies, lol

by the way, I have started a forum for homesteading on chainBB

To truely find out, you'll have to do some testing.

Unfortunately, there are a LOT of possibilities for such a plumbing configuration. I'll do my best to give you some ideas, but it's not going to be all inclusive:

Since they all seem to come off the cold water side, here are my assumptions:

One valve is the main isolation valve (shuts off everything)

Another goes to just the water heater (allowing you to still have water in the rest of the house while still being able to work on water heater)

The last probably goes to an outside hydrant or acts as a system drain valve.

It'll take a bit of experimentation, but you should be able to figure it out.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Agree that there may have been another structure on the property at some time or maybe they were planning for one in the future. Our well at previous location was set up in a similar way. 🐓🐓
