Garden Pest - can they be eliminated with other insects...REALLY!

in #homesteading6 years ago

In the Spring we purchased 15,000 Trichogramma Wasps eggs online. This variety of wasp is a predator and lives off many garden pests including the caterpillar which can really hurt cold and warm weather plants. We have seem these predators in action several times this year but today was the first time we caught one in action on film. He was eating a young tomato horn worm caterpillar on our tobacco plants.

While I can't say they have eliminated the horn worms or other caterpillars from our homestead it is obvious they have helped. When you garden without pesticides and herbicides all the help you can get naturally is greatly appreciated! We would love to hear from you on how you combat pests naturally!
This is a video we posted at the beginning of the year showing the wasps when we released them.

Trichogramma Wasps - Predators

We are always looking for creatives ways to save time and expand our natural predators on the homestead.
