The summer heat is on and it's brutal. Mike talks about keeping the chickens cool, does a little picking in and talking about the garden. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the latest update.

Amazing video. Very interesting and educative

Keep up the great work @squareonefarms

Thank you so much @menoski ! Glad you enjoyed it

Aaaw.... your poor chickens! I do gotta laugh cos I live in Northern Thailand where everyone keeps chickens, no one has chicken houses at all and 108F is pretty standard in the hot dry season - sometimes EVERY day for 5-6-8 weeks! The Thai chickens are definitely climate adjusted and not requiring such VIP care.

Adapting for climate change? Man - we need to get this stuff sorted and shared.

Think about coming over to @ecotrain sometime for a look-see - very welcome to use the tag for any-all content which is about "making the world a better place".

Best regards from Asia, where it's too darn hot to go out in the later afternoon and an hour inside with the AC on enjoying my steem friends makes a LOT of sense.

Thank you for the invite. Yeah, the humidity is what is the killer here. We have lived in both dry and humid areas of the world and this South Arkansas humidity just seems to take the cake on zapping energy out of you. And none of our other chickens get that treatment...kind of have to secure our investment in those though since we eat them ourselves and sell them as part of our farm business. If you've seen our other videos, most of them free range, but those are a niche product of being pasture raised. We do the same with quail. I'll have to head over and check y'all out. Thanks again.

It really looks to be an interesting video with some essential methods that can be adapted by all who is in this business. I dont think other local farmers ever thinks about such an arrangements for chickens including the fan. By the way is there any thumb rule to calculate how many chickens can be put in a single cage, just asking out of curiosily.

Thank you!

Thank you. Yes, the rule of thumb for chickens is 1 bird per 2 square feet. The chicken tractor shown in the video is a 10' x 6', so it holds 30 chickens in it. We also do turkeys which is one bird per 5-6 square feet. And we put quail 3 birds per 1 square foot.

Very ingenious system you came up with to keep those chicken cool.
I'll keep my daughter away from this video. She will complain that those chickens are better taken care of (her fan broke and repairing it will take some time/money).
Summer is definitely a greta thing, but it comes at a price. Great farm you have there. Stay cool
