The Micro Garden | 16sqft High Intensity Garden Bed

in #homesteading5 years ago

I have been thinking about trying to plant a smaller garden bed using a very high intensity planting method, just to see how much food could be produced out of a small garden space. This is an experiment just to see how far we can push small space gardening. This video is a little long and with no frills as I just kind of tell you what I'm planting and my thoughts about why I think that it would work well.

Great video. Can't wait to see how it goes. Upvoted and followed.

Great episode, love the idea. I wish we could have seen more of the garden bed while you were planting so we could see how far apart things are. JEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE UPDATES TO SEE HOW THING ARE GROWING. I have a 3 x 8 raised bed I have been planting.

Sorry about that I couldn't seem to get it all into frame, and I was trying to get it done before night fell right after I put the kids to bed haha. When I do the first update video I'll get in there and show you how far apart they are, but they are close like closer than they would tell you to plant normally. I'm throwing the square foot garden rules out and just crowding the bed. I will do some trimming of lower leaves off of the pepper and okra plants to make room for the shorter plants to help maximize my growing space. Thinking greens like lettuce, arugula, basil and chard as basically a ground cover

Yeah... I threw the square foot rules out too, but then I messed up by planting squash that I thought was cucumbers.

Very good video, very well prepared and EXPLAINED, excited to see more ...

You've been visited by @porters from Homesteaders Co-op. That's a lot of planting in that small space! It will be interesting to see what results you get with this gardening experiment! Nice! I would offer one suggestion....especially for late tomatoes. I would recommend you plant them on their side, at an angle. So basically, make a trench, place the plant in it on it's side, leaving only the leaf tips out of the soil. This allows them to set bigger and deeper roots faster, and will get you caught up in time! Anyway, nice space you got! Great way to maximize it. :)

ehy dear @thecitystead, yours is a great job! you must be very satisfied with all your experiments !! now we wait :-)) I love your video !!
congratulations!! :-))

steemit quiet often surprises me and now thanks to curie, I was able to get to watch a completely different topic which may have relevance across globally. Loved to see such experimental stuff which may ultimately benifit the human kind especially the population is more and space for farming is getting less and less.

Thank you, Looking forward to further episodes to know more details

This - high intensity farming and food production - is going to be pivotal to our survival sooner than later. Experiments like this MATTER, especially in different climates, seasons and environments.

Grateful to be living in Thailand where stuff simply grows and produces at levels that have to be seen to be believed.

Hoping to see more and more urban farmers and citysteaders sharing thier knowledge and claiming every tiny inch around them that has access to light and water for food, herbs, flowers and air purification plants.

NICE post. Looking forward to the follow-up 'this is how we did' posts.
