What are the basic needs of human's ?
We Humans are complex creatures. So, we need many things for our own survival. Hence, a single thing cannot be humans’ basic needs. All animals need a careful mother during their infancy. Otherwise, the infant animal cannot survive longer. Other animals kill a motherless infant or hunger takes the life of such an animal. We humans are lucky to some extent that a motherless child can be raised by its father or it can be adopted by other person.
Mother protects us and also feeds us. Food, water, tools, utilities and methods of survival, protection from enemies and other threats, oxygen to inhale, all are important for us. Therefore, we can categorize our basic needs according to following categories:
Essential elements to keep body working: Food, water and oxygen are the things without which nobody can live. We can live without food for three weeks and without water for three days but without oxygen we can’t survive beyond a few minutes. Hence, these things are very important for us.
Essential elements to protect body: Cloths protects us from changing temperature while shelter is necessary to get protection from heat, cold, winds, storm, rain and wild animals.
Family and Society: We are social animals. So, we cannot live happily without the support of our family and the society. Family protects and helps us to survive and make an impact on society. Society has arranged and created methods for imparting education and disseminating knowledge. Entertainment is a knowledge-based thing we get from the society. Hence, education, knowledge and entertainment are the essential things for us as they make us real humans.
Money?: In our society nothing comes free. We have to earn money for getting things from it. But, it is not the basic need of us. We can do many things without money. Human society could flourish even when money was not invented. Even today many tribes are surviving without money.
Miscellaneous needs: Every normal adult person aspires for having children as progeny of a creature is the means to become immortal because the progeny carries the genetic material (DNA) of the creature. Sex is the method of transferring one’s genes to the next generations. Hence, sex is also our basic need.
The things mentioned above are our basic needs. We cannot survive unless we don’t have those things. However, the most important thing for us is values. Values and ethics are the most important things for us. Many people sacrifice their lives for the sake of values and ethical behavior.
