As a video game enthusiasts, many a times I have personally witnessed disappointment arising from developers abandoning a promising game project. Shemue 3 was a good example, while the earlier version (1 and 2) have recorded considerable patronage from gamers and even one of my favourite, the version 3 suffered a setback as the firm was only able to raise $2 million out of the $10 required investment for the project. The company could not sponsored a massive marketing campaign to reach gamers and the rest is history. Shemue is just an example in a long list of failed projects which include the likes of Yogventures, Godus, Starcitizen and many more.

Inability to run massive marketing campaign has concentrated economic power in the hand of the few big corporations while smaller firms with low budget have been forced to close down. Marketing is central to success of any game application and with the current centralised nature of the industry, only very few companies can fund their project.

Additionally, developers often face payment problems especially for games targeting global players. Considering the fact that not all operating system support local currency payment, developers often have to seek partnership with local currency operators in order to make such games available for local players. This often comes at a cost and in the long run reduction in revenue of the game developer.

As a result of these aforementioned challenges, EON platform is a decentralised digital game distribution platform powered by the blockchain where gamers can come together, share game amongst themselves, play games and even socialize. Blockchain technology has been at the forefront of innovation in the last decade and expert had already been tagged the 4th industrial revolution. It is high time that we witness mainstream adoption blockchain in the game industry.

This features exposes gamers on the platform to wide range of games that are in tandem with their interest. Gamers have the opportunity to discover new games from developers, purchase the games with any cryptocurrencies of their choice and finally play these games. Additionally, they can suggest games to get brought to the platform and when eventually listed, all the gamers that subscribe to the new game shall be counted as referrals for the gamer that suggested it.

GAME COMMUNITY

This is the social media components of the platform where gamers come together to socialize. Gamers can submit a comprehensive review of a game they love while other users would show approval or disapproval by either upvoting or downvoting the review.
