A Mystery
This is the first illustration I did for Cartooner. This being the case, I did not yet know what the format was going to be so you will see me develop the picture in a more vertical fomat and at the end I recropped it for the final version, then also changing some of the value and color decisions. See how many differences you can spot if you're curious about that sort of thing :)
Sketch done with blue and graphite pencil on Deleter comic paper 8.5 x 11.
Started by redefining the lines with the digital tool upon importing.
Then transparent value breakdown and approximate color for the large areas
If you have seen my other posts by now you know what to expect. Opaque painting starts using the color below...
And that's about how far I got before recropping and repainting some parts after finding out the correct specs.
As always, leave your questions and comments below! Thanks guys (and gals)
Really cool post. Like the style and seeing the progress :)
so cute * __ * aaah i love your style~ the expression of the girl and how the lighting from the flashlight interacts with her face is just super lovely <3
the whole image reminds me of very fun adolescent storybooks for young girls * ___ * Great vibes <3 Really neat !!!
upvotes and resteems
thanks @veryspider you're such a paragon of good vibes. You know i heard once that dividing a character's face in half through some compositional means was a narrative device used in film and other media to show the character had a secret
wowow that's really interesting !! :O ...... i guess i can kinda see the mechanic of that ! thank you for sharing that tidbits, klumklum <3
Well done! every stage of this has it's own charm. ( the old schooler in me like the pencil sketch the best )
the old schooler in me was the one in charge of that part ;)

Awesome. The colours makes a great mystic ambient, and her face is very expressive. The pass from the sketch to the digital part is very interesting, seeing the finished product I would have guessed much more was done by hand. Which means: Very well done
Wow! Amazing art! 🎨❤️
That's great! You really gave her an expression of fear.
