First National Anti-Natalist Meet in India

in #india5 years ago

Hello friends!

Last month, I had written a post titled Is Human Overpopulation Really a Problem?, where I tried to collect my thoughts on Anti-natalism as a solution for over-population problem. I wasn't very sure if that can actually work.

But if we really perceive increasing human population as a threat or a problem, we have never made any serious campaign to raise awareness about it.

India's population numbers are going to beat China's by 2024 according to the revised figures of United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Earlier estimates suggested it to be somewhere in 2022. So we have at least delayed the title of World's Most Populous Country by 2 years now 😉. Can we delay it any further?

On the contrary, in my above-said post, I had talked about the efforts being made my Andhra Pradesh State Government to increase the population by incentivizing it.

Ironically, next weekend, its nearby State capital of Karnataka is going to host the first national meet of Anti-natalists in our country.

Some days back, I received the invitation for this event. I had communicated by inability to attend it but have told to spread the word. Since it's a first ever gathering of anti-natalists and there are very few anti-natalists in our country, I did want it to promote but somehow forgot about it.

Today, when I was contacted again by the organisers for this, I thought at least I should make a post on it before I forget again 😊. So here is the event details:

I personally don't advocate "Voluntary Human Extinction" philosophy but not all anti-natalists people support it.

So whether you're an anti-natalist or not, if you're interested to discuss on this serious issue, do attend this event. You can get in touch with the organizers on the phone numbers provided for further details.

And a request:

Whether you're planning to attend this or not, do not forget to share this post and spread the word further. This event is not being organized or supported by Government but is being organized by citizens like me and you. So do extend your support to this initiative.

Thanks!

I disagree with the overpopulation theory. I think it's just bad resource management by local and national governments. World policies might also restrict world population movement in general.

Any large increases of population in the Indian subcontinent will mean nothing but misery and very possibly war. Climate change is a threat to the agricultural productivity of Northern India as the melting of glaciers in the Himalayas is making the water supply less stable. It is pure madness to campaign for an increase in population under those circumstances. I do understand that India is a multi-ethnic federation where political clout depends on the head count. But it is a tragedy if population growth does not slow down. Untold suffering will be the result of that. That said, I do not agree with the voluntary human extinction movement. That's fringe thinking. All the other animals live nasty brutish and short lives compared to ours.
