STEEM Absent at Wire Summit 2018 in India?

in #india5 years ago (edited)

To facilitate and promote invesmens in Blockchain startups and DAPPS, an established media house BTCWIRES organized its first ever investor edition event viz. Wire Summit 2018 in India's capital city New Delhi, this Sunday.

International blockchain industry stalwarts like Giacomo Arcaro and Giovanni Casagrande were also present at this event. However Tim Draper could not make it to this event but he sent a very inspiring video message for all conference attendees.

Indian startups like Diro Labs, Farm2Kitchen and Dunya Labs were also present along with some international startups like dGram. But I was looking for something more...

Any STEEM DAPP creator from India?

Most crypto and blockchain experts talked about the prevailing regulatory scene in India and the way forward. The most remarkable and vocal government official supporting blockchain technology was Mr. J.A.Chowdhury - the Special Chief Secretary and IT Adviser to the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. I'm glad that there are people like him in our country.

But my eyes were expecting some mention of STEEM in a Blockchain event of this stature, where over 1000 serious investors were present. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any mention of STEEM at this event.

This brings me to this question: Ain't there any developers working on STEEM in India? Is no body creating any project or DAPP on STEEM blockchain? No proposed project with SMT from India!

Today India has quite a handful of active Steemians who run STEEM Witness nodes. Even if they ain't coming up with any projects themselves, they should be present at such events to talk about potential of STEEM blockchain or may be, even fund or propose / facilitate to fund some DAPPS based on STEEM. This would really help develop the STEEM ecosystem in India faster.

May be, I'm wrong and there were actually some Steemians available at this event. I ain't fully aware of it as I was not present at this event as this event was "invite only" event. But serious players and stake holders could always request an invite from the organizers.

Thank you for being here for me, so I can be here for you.
Enjoy your day and stay creative!
Botty loves you. <3

I was not even aware of organizing of such an event in India. Thanks dear for informing us. I think there are not much users of Steemit from India. Some witnesses like @firepower, @jatinhota and @bobinson are doing nice job but we need more active people here so that we Indian may make our impact on this platform. It will also be very beneficial for Steem platform as India in a growing economy and a country of over billion people.

Yes, I agree. To promote the usage and awareness, we need to be present at every such event. It's always good if local Steemians can take some time out for promoting awareness about STEEM at such events. There are Steemians in every major Indian city now.

I would have loved to be there and pitch our project. We need to spread news like this as much as we could. Nice work!

I'm excited to learn about your project Swap Steem. This is a much needed initiative today. Wishing you all the best for it!

@the1ramp is a dapp from India and they are based out of Delhi. As for myself it's hard to fund travel for these things specifically when current prices are so low that they don't even pay for the costs of running my witness nodes. So budgeting travel for these events where benefit to Steem community from India remains rather low and logically feels like a waste of money if one has to travel a lot to get there. If I lived in Delhi I would've probably attended. If there was a project on Steem from India trying to get funding then it makes sense to attend events where one can pitch. However, raising funds for crypto projects is tricky in India. Until the market turns around I'm just gonna sit these events out as I have other day to day expenses to meet. Ofcourse, anyone can represent the Steem community from India and they should. :)

WOW! I wasn't aware of @the1ramp though it was present at Steemfest. Thanks for the heads up on it!

I can very much understand the expenses, time and efforts needed in traveling from distant places for attending such events. And I do know, you are over a couple of thousand kilometers away from New Delhi.

You already put a lot of efforts in developing and promoting STEEM community in India and abroad. So I wasn't specifically targeting you or any other Witness, for that matter. However Witnesses & senior Steemians from Chandigarh or nearby cities could have attended.

But it's not always possible for everyone to be everywhere. However I was definitely expecting some of the local city dwellers to be there. When they can turnout in large numnbers for a STEEM meetup then why can't some can attend a general blockchain event like this one ...and that too on a weekend!

If I were in Delhi, I would have attended ...but may be it's easier said than done!

I very much agree on difficulty in funding travel cost owing to current market prices. It's not even viable to run a Witness node for many. So sustaining oneself in these times is itself an achievement. Probably this event was wrongly timed and had almost zero impact on markets.

I agree with your points. I think it was an important event for the blockchain industry in India. Not very good for pro-cryptocurrency. Also it was organised by a digital publication and not many people knew about it I guess. There is also https://fundition.io/#!/@aneilpatel/pq2i3003r from India.

I went to Blockchain NW in Seattle and there was no Steem representation or even tshirts at the event. It would be very easy to set up the infrastructure to get Steem a booth at every event. It could even be possible to tokenize, where people can earn the SMT by providing value to Steem at any given crypto event.

Yes, it's easy to set up the booth at every event if local Steemians are ready to volunteer their time for it and booth placement charges ain't too hefty.

I love the idea of distributing SMT at events.

STEEM should totally be in India. This has been the problem with the Steemit centric model, not enough is going on internationally. Thanks for bringing up this gap!

Yeah, not enough is going on perhaps because we ain't putting enough efforts in that direction. We need enthusiasm and loyalty in existing Steemians to get them to promote STEEM at such events.

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
