Sentiment from the global still continues to hit the financial markets of a number of developing countries, including Indonesia during April-May 2018. Indonesia's macroeconomic conditions are still healthy?

The rupiah has weakened 2.99% since the beginning of the year (ytd) against the US dollar, or was at 13,960 at the end of last week (11/5). Following the movement of the rupiah, the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) is down 6.28% (ytd) or at 5,956.83. Similarly, Indonesia Composite Bond Index (ICBI) weakened 1.73% (ytd).

PT Bahana TCW Investment Management sees the weakening that occurs in the rupiah against the US dollar is likely to be caused by external factors and not from within the country, whether fiscal or monetary policy.
