Taman Bacaan Masyarakat
The existence of TBM is one of the media in addition to the library to develop the interest of reading the community.TBM exists to serve the interests of the residents who live in the vicinity. Because TBM includes the responsibility, authority and rights of local communities in building, managing and developing it, participate own, take responsibility and participate maintain it.
Description of Taman Bacaan Masyarakat.
TBM is a means of nonformal learning and community education. TBM is directed to provide services to community members who have not gone to school, illiterates, dropouts, and community members whose educational needs can not be met through formal education. Non-formal education aims to provide educational services so that citizens learn to be able to develop their own potential with an emphasis on mastery of vocational knowledge and skills as well as the development of professional attitude and personality. One of the non-formal education programs is compulsory basic education and equity education through early childhood education, literacy eradication, improving reading culture, and TBM development. According to Lasa (2009: 331) TBM serves to:
Increase reading interest;
Enriching the learning experience;
Growing self-learning activities;
Expanding people's insights;
A lifelong learning ground.
A study conducted by the National Library of 2010 on TBM (in Khayatun, 2011) revealed that the attractiveness of a reading garden is related to five factors:
Friendly service so as to attract people to use the reading garden;
Different reading materials, the more variety the reading, the more people who are interested to come to the garden readings; readings that interest the public are religion, comics, and skills;
A simple place that makes people more familiar, important clean and broad enough;
The collection is constantly updated; and
The reading material is popular, not too serious, and is accompanied by illustrations of images.
TBM is a means of learning for the community, entertainment (recreation), and the utilization of time effectively by utilizing reading materials and other information sources. Thus, citizens can gain new knowledge and information to improve their lives and information facilities in the form of books and other reading materials that suit the needs of citizens and local communities. Benefits include growing interest, love, and passion for reading, enriching learning experiences and knowledge, fostering independent learning activities, helping to develop reading skills, adding insight into the development of science and technology (IPTEK), and enhancing community empowerment.
