Knowledge of Bipolar Disorder

in #indonesia6 years ago (edited)

Everyone in general has experienced a good mood (mood high) and a bad mood (mood low). However, someone who has bipolar disorder has extreme mood swings with a pattern of feeling that changes easily. One time, a person with bipolar disorder can feel very enthusiastic and excited (mania). When his mood changes badly, he can be very depressed, pessimistic, desperate, even to have a suicidal desire. Mood increases clinically referred to as mania, or when mild is called hypomania.

Individuals who experience a mania episode also experience frequent depressive episodes, or mixed episodes when both features of mania and depression are present at the same time. This episode is usually separated by periods of normal mood, but in some individual depression and mania it may change very quickly which is known as rapid-cycle. Extreme manic episodes can sometimes cause psychotic symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations. Manic episodes usually start suddenly and last between two weeks to five months. While depression tends to last longer. Hypomanic episodes have lighter degrees than bead. Bipolar disorder is divided into bipolar I, bipolar II, cyclothymia, and other types based on the nature and experience of the severity of mood episodes; the range is often described as a bipolar spectrum.

The incidence of bipolar disorder ranges from 0.3% - 1.5%, the percentage is relatively low compared to the percentage of incidents categorized as schizophrenia. Bipolar disorder currently affects about 10 to 12 percent of teenagers abroad. In some cities in Indonesia also began to report sufferers in their teens. The risk of death continues to overshadow sufferers of bipolar disorder, and that's more because they take shortcuts.

The first episode can occur from childhood to old age. Most cases occur in young adults aged 20-30 years. The earlier a person suffers from bipolar disorder, the risk of the disease will be more severe, prolonged, and often recur. While children have the potential to experience the development of this disorder in a more severe form and often with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. People at risk for bipolar disorder are those who have family members with bipolar disorder.
