"IFC Finals - First Round Tie Breaker"

My entry for the IFC Finals first round - Tie Breaker

This was one heck of an adventure, I have to say! Not only were the items in this scavenger hunt very challenging, but I had some little experiences that made me wonder if I wasn't stuck in some kind of Murphy's Law cloud of doom. Lol! However, I'm not so easily swayed (I do have a sense of humor).

Determined, I forged on and these little blips ended up with a silver lining and I'm sure that my family and I will look back and have a little laugh about it all. Yes, @apolymask, your words kept creeping up in my mind:

If you somehow get hurt doing any of our quests you can not reasonably hold us accountable. Take responsibility for your own choices and actions in life. This is a voluntary game where you choose to play. Only you can make that decision for yourself.

FLOWERS

This was my power spot for a couple hours. A rather nice reprieve from the conditioned air and white walls of the museum. I stepped outside to this scene and I just plopped down and made myself at home in the beauty of this space. Nature and the skies have always been my absolute joy - what better way to spend the afternoon than having the skies and nature right at your feet. The playing damselflies were over the top amazing! And I had some really sweet people join me at points - discussing the beauty and also the paradox of perception - it was just a very beautiful time spent.

Hello!

SWIMMING POOL

CAVE

Photos taken at Hanging Rock in North Carolina. This cave right here has quite a story attached. Something that I would not have known if it weren't for the park ranger that hit our car on the way there! LOL These photos 'almost' didn't happen! But alas, in the fall we are going to return and get a private tour and hike from him so all is well.

TWIN PILLARS

Twin pillars always remind me of the Free Masons. Good thing (at least for the purposes of this contest) there are remnants of the Free Masons' architecture in nearly every town and country.

SPIDER

This is Rosie. Rosie is a 'working spider' for kids' classes. Perfectly content and very well taken care of and loved daily. I remember Rosie when my boys took classes with her :) I was surprised that she was still around but I guess female tarantulas can live 35 years.

SHIELD

DREAM CATCHER

This is the dream catcher my oldest son made when he was 5 :)

GRAFFITI

This was probably one of my favorite visits (although our car started smoking without explanation) ha! In any case, I love 'art' and free expression and this was wonderful to see. I was inspired by it actually. However, reading articles on this very famous "free expression tunnel" I learned that it's not so 'free' these days. Kind of sad that everything is being censored now.

MAYAN CALENDAR

There are actually 3 calendars that the Mayan lived by but mostly these were passed down through spoken word and art. They lived their life in accordance with these calendars/beliefs/mathematics/cosmology.

I visited our local Museum and found a lot of artifacts.

The following are some of the items used by the Mayans that include the same glyphs, mathematics and beliefs they include in their calendar.

This is also considered by many to be the Mayan Calendar which made hunting down this item especially tricky and confusing. So I am including both here but I feel pretty confident that this is actually Aztec (much easier to find than the other above):

LIGHTNING

Hot diggity dog! Date night with my hubby should always be this exciting!

What's interesting about this shot is that I managed to capture a ground-to-cloud bolt!

It's full ascent to the sky!

POWER SPOT

I would have to say that my power spot is and always has been my heart. It sustains me, teaches me, inspires me, moves me and at times thrashes me into malleable form only to emerge again renewed with deeper perspective. Everything that I am flows out of this place. It is a place that I have learned over a lifetime to trust, to go to for comfort, wisdom and truth, creativity and love. And it is a place that I draw from in my writing, photography and art, relationships.

I am also energized by witnessing human kindness and compassion and of others' joy. I am often moved to tears by all the things that come from the place of the heart - whether music, art, poetry.

However, even a power spot needs a recharge. I am most energized when walking in nature and can remove myself from the noise of life and this sometimes overwhelming world. I learned this early on in my life coming from a not so functional family. I spent a lot time walking in the woods, spending time in nature and it always has that instant affect of balance and reconnection for me - when my heart and head become out of balance with one another or I am feeling depleted. It's almost like a sacred place outside of the meddling of human interference. It's life 'untarnished' in its purest form where the buzzing of silence is filled with the songs of birds or rustling of leaves, an occasional branch or nut falling from a tree or the trickle of a creek - you get the sense being in this space that all is connected with purpose for the benefit of all - there is a rhythm that you begin to recognize not only on the outside but on the inside and it's trees the witnesses. That is so very comforting to me.

Take a walk with me.....

We're on our way to the 'cloud dome' - a dwelling that has a little peep hole in the roof, but instead of viewing the world outside, the outside is reflecting on the viewer.

2 miles in - There it is!

Walking around the other side, let's take a peek! Don't you know I'm imagining little gnomes and fairyfolk greeting us at the door. LOL

Unfortunately, it is too dark to take pictures this day, let alone see inside. Perhaps another day.

Wow! As always, great story telling and incredible photography. Incredible job @youhavewings.

You have definitely got me blushing, @jbreheny - thank you! And for taking time away from that amazing place you're in to comment on the community's posts. Class

wow. just.... wow

Your real life adventures remind me of Robert Langdon in Dan Brown's books:

Cool. Very cool!

Did you find any extra clues and conspiracies?

Namaste, JaiChai

I'm embarrassed to say that I'm unfamiliar, @JaiChai However curious now ;)

But....

I may just post about the cave conspiracy LOL

Namaste

"The Da Vinci Code", "Angels and Demons", "The Inferno"...Dan Brown books turned into movies.

Namaste, JaiChai

Yes! Da Vinci Code I did see many, many years ago - great movie! I haven't read any of the books as I mostly read non-fiction but I am a truth seeker that's for sure. I would agree that there is that 'layer' to life that if you peel away its facade there is a deeper story ;) Not too much random-ness

Oh you will love the books more. The best for me is Angels & Demons. And come to think of it, yeah it's like we're doing what he did. Just without any bad consequence if we don't though find it all like an end of the world or something. 😂

I enjoyed all the lovely photography, and I am pretty sure you have the best lightning picture out of us all! Everything from the beautiful lotus flower to the tunnel with the graffiti had a lovely story, except for the shield so I wonder where it came from...

Hi @plushzilla - Thank you and I didn't see your post - I'll have to go take a peek after I write this :) So cool that you got lightning, too. I didn't initially have a good photo of lightning (took it with my cell photo and it was overwhelmed with the light) so these photos were of the second night (I found the highest point and used a different camera). So exciting! I'm sure you were excited by capturing it as well. At one point, I was considering whether or not to drive to get a snapshot of a Tesla coil (too far), then I watched a thousand vids on how to make lightning (none impressive), then I was considering a plasma ball. After all that, getting those bolts rocked my world.

The shield was the very last thing on my post, believe it or not. I held out...after going to museums and meeting some guy that created a festival called, "Legends of Myth" - I wanted the 'real deal'. The Legends guy was very promising and he even sent me a photo - I was through the roof with happy but then he told me that he and others 'rent' the equipment and costumes'. Sooooo our own costume shields became the photo. I did find a 'torah shield' at the museum that was quite beautiful but I didn't think many would know what it was (I certainly never heard of one). Yes, you would 'think' that at a history museum or other cultural museums that 'a shield' would be all over the place. Surprisingly no. Strange, huh? It was almost as hard as the Mayan Calendar - both kicked my butt. Can't upload that photo the Legends guy sent (think you'd get a chuckle out of it).

You are curious and inquisitive....I love that.

Heading over to your place to see your post! :)

wow!!!
I was looking out for who would get a real picture of lightning and you have wowed me with that already... Its a good shot... I love it...
Congrats and I wish you luck.

Thank you @kenneth1 :)

@EagleSpirit got a nice shot of lightning as well

We are surrounded by so many trees here that I had to find the highest spot in our town to photograph the lightning - that was the key. And I took 'video' (to me, the best way to capture) and then went frame by frame. It is exciting to capture it though :) My kids are interested in going the next time - pretty safe when filmed at a distance.

lol... about the danger, @apolymask did mention it.. However, I'd like to experience it myself...
I mean for real..
A job well done. 👍

Thank you, @kenneth1

I have to admit, it was over the top 'exciting' to capture it. 'Video' is the key! Good luck and happy lightning hunting ;)

You got real lightening, so lucky. the water lily and reflection, what an absolutely gorgeous shot, so surreal looking. Is it floating in the sky or is the sky adrift in the pool. Wonderful job and story with it all.

I had to look this up, @bashadow. I assumed these were lotus flowers but I think you are right in that they are water lilies! So cool - I learned something new today ;)

Interesting that you would bring up that question. This is a section that I took out of my post:

As I stepped outside to the reflecting pond....ummm, to reflect some more ;), I had become lost for an hour in my own little world behind the lens of my camera. Out of the blue, this older gentleman approached me and broke the spell this vision had over me by saying, "Isn't it amazing our perception of what we see...how do we know if it is real or not? Or if it is distorted?" I glanced up trying to gather my thoughts for such a deep question. This man had clearly seen a lot of life as the stories were deeply embedded in the burrows of his face. "I don't think that we can know...it's like a mirror and we are looking at everything upside down and reversed.", I replied. Did that even make sense? It really didn't matter...we were just reflecting by the reflecting pond.....

It was a super mesmerizing place to hang - I'm definitely going back often! What does it look like in each season?

Wow.. What a great job youhavewings! So many excellent pictures.. The first ones of the flowers in the water blew me away, and the lightning one is great! I think you got the best lightning pic out of everyone. And the ones of you walking around nature too were great. :) The graffiti place is cool! The cave is cool! Your son's dreamcatcher is awesome!
Kenneth1 put up a good fight, however you got the max amount of points 50, and even if his power spot were to win it wouldn't be enough, so you win this round and move on to the next round. Congratulations and good luck in the rest of the contest. :)

Thank you, @apolymask

Nike post. I like your pictures. Very natural and beautiful

Holy Crap! You got real lightning! and everything else looks really good in the photos! I'm glad I wasn't paired against you!

Thank you....you are too funny! :)
