The top meritocrats being always at least 2 generations ahead in term of social planning, we really ought to question any steps that propelled human civilization so far, and analyze their dynamics and aftermaths as well.

The Gutenberg's printing press has facilitated the molding of education. The industrialization era has ended with nuclear weapons and the transformation of humans into consumers-debt slaves. The appearance of the fist computer has initiated the first step of the intellectual meshing of man and machine... and finally, the internet today is seeking to implement the take over of consciousness by a silent and binary assimilation.

By now it should be obvious that we if we didn't become free-er, it is because there were agendas blocking individuals' growth in the first place. It is crystal clear: the outcomes are very different from those we were sold at the very beginning. The meritocrats (and their scientists) are behind most turning point discoveries because they have the means to regulate the evolutionary pace of society as they see fit. And every time, people take the bait, go for it, invest in it, because these new eras are promoted as "freedom and self-ownership enhancers". Unfortunately and long story short, the steadily erosion of free will has occurred, and is driving us into the ultimate clap trap.

That of transhumanism. Elon Musk is a meritocrat taking us in this direction. He paints an "AI merging" aftermath as "the sum of all consciousnesses, which will give us qualities of super humans", and which realistically echoes the same warning. That meritocrats only embellish the future for themselves. If you cannot beat IT, then join IT.... AI. One way or another, a genocide will ensue: that of billions of people unwilling to merge with AI by those belonging to the "Hive Mind". Mindless scientists have developed, 2 years ago, robot soldiers that never sleep, can shoot and kill from four kilometres. Nor Musk speaks of the growing number of hackers preparing for the final battle either.

EC has already expounded on the fate that awaits those who blindly believe that they will achieve technological immortality, and that the latter will very likely end up being farmed for their neural capacities and DNA to feed some AI alien entity.

Living in the digital and automation age does not mean to surrender one's free will to a synthetic meme intelligence. Machines must serve humans and not being given the possibility to expand their programming on their own. Because Humanity has never understood what free will and non coercion stand for, the threat is now in our backyards.
