Free Speech: Of Weak Resistance

I had expected more of a backlash or resistance from the recent censoring carried out by the media giants. It was supposed to be the last Straw for most to usher us into a new era where individual rights and liberties will be fought for and any action against it, duly resisted.

Several days have passed and nothing of the sorts has taken place. If anything, people seem to be aligning to a new reality that gives media outlets a right to censor, with some people even in support. The cause of this docility is what intrigues me and why there is so much inaction in the face of oppression. Apart from individual actions to boycott these media giants (which will prove futile if not done en masse), there is relative background silence on these issues.

It amazes me because we have seen the power of resistance in the past, even though they were actively led by these media giants into shaping their philosophy on the people. Does it then mean that the oppressed are incapable of putting up a fight on their own? Do not expect any mainstream support on this one but if there cannot be a way to organize and collectively say no to injustice going forward, then the battle may as well be decided.
