What does 4th of July, 1776 represent to me?

Nothing and everything.

It represents the valiant fight that men once endured to secure the dream of freedom. The revolution would last 7 long years, finally ending in the siege of Yorktown.

The declaration was signed July 2nd 1776, by our early leaders of the second continental congress. The fancy copy was signed later in August. The declaration sole purpose was to change the scope of our actions from "rebellion" to "revolution."

For seven long years men fought and died to liberate themselves from tyranny... yet after the war ended and "independence" was gained, many did not celebrate this holiday.

So, John Adams wrote shortly after the war of 1812 that he wanted a national holiday in which the young nation could celebrate. The democratic-republicans and the federalists had a giant fight over the declaration itself.

The democratic-republicans felt that the declaration was just and had admired Adams.. while the federalist felt that the declaration was anti-british and controversial.

After Adams died, copies of the declaration circulated with the date July 4th, 1776. As more people became interested in our newly liberated country.

Fast forward some two hundred years

The parties that helped secure our young nations independence eventually fractured. Democratic-Republicans became two parties, to further usurp the power from its people. Federalist party all but died out.

Our elected officials slowly became what they hated under rule of the crown. Tyranny. One today does not doubt politicians love for money, love for land. Their insatiable appetite for power, corrupts the original design that our founding fathers once envisioned.

This is why I say it is as nothing.

We have become everything we hated.

I am neither and yet both conservative, liberal. I dont choose a party. I dont vote, as its really about conscience. I believe our forefathers would be the same.

they would have "rebelled" then declared "independence" by now. Where are you kindred spirits? Where are your visionaries, oh Lady Liberty?
