TED Ideas Need Splaining: Can't Say I didn't Warn Ya!
Can't Say I didn't warn you, I guess there is such a thing as a slippery slope. Nevertheless I am a proponent of freespeech so lets here what progressives have to say about pedophilia, after all "we're just talking about biology: (van der Bruggen 2018).
yes from an emotional point of view I can kind of understand that you would want to eliminate these people from society; however it doesn't make sense, and that's because we're talking about biology, we're talking about a sexual orientation, something that we simply cannot change, and on top of that every day new people are born with the same difficulty. So it's not practical to eliminate these people from society, they haven't done anything wrong!

If this is not the slippery slope I warned about in previous posts, someone please enlighten me on why the fuck TED is supporting this garbage, or anyone for that matter.

It is only a matter of time before we begin to see marches and protests in defense of the rights of pedophiles, and later they will also say that clothing is a social imposition and that it should be repressed, these people are deeply materialists and, consequently, amoral, have the belief that the human is and must behave like an animal, attending exclusively to his impulses.
It won't end until we do something about it, but everyone is too afraid of being labelled a bigot to speak out. Hopefully they stop before they bring back cannibalism. Thanks for your comment.

There is one thing I agree with here and that is if no offence had been committed then no punishment is needed. Do I feel sorry that they must keep it to themselves? Hell no! Not when those who have been abused have to keep things to themselves, either out of shame (there is judgement even for them or people just aren't comfortable hearing it) or sometimes even because their abusers are still alive. Yes, the abused can seek psychological help, but not all can afford it.
Pedophiles know what isn't acceptable and people are supposed to be able to have some sort of control over themselves, it's what's supposed to separate us from animals.
My worry if we start to say that it's just something they need to be given help with, it sends the message that it's okay to have these feelings and ultimately they'll be forgiven for giving in to them.
Agreed, know one wants someone punished for nothing. It was more about these types of presentations (that are becoming more prevalent) attempting to normalize the behavior as a legitimate sexual preference. It will be a scary world to live in for parents & children.
After the simplistic comments to the videos, I'm not sure if I should even write this comment, but what the hell. I am not a big fan of Ted talks in general, especially when they branched out to x format, but whatever. Now as far as the videos, the first one (van der Bruggen) I found very sexist, she states right away that she'll be talking about men, because there is no "obvious" evidence about women paedophilia, after which she continues to reinforce that statement with whole bunch of statistical examples: "as many as 80 thousand men, your brother, your husband", etc. It was pathetic, if you don't have enough data, don't push the sexist agenda, that's all I'm saying. Now, for the second video, mind you, that she was painfully lethargic in her speech, crack head? I doubt that.
There is nothing more ignorant, then trying to avoid the uncomfortable discussion, weather it's about pedophiles, religion, sexism, or any other subject. I didn't find anything even remotely normalizing paedophilia in neither of those lectures, on contrary, they both say, the percentages are very small. It's the lack of education and information about touchy subjects like that, that creates simplistic comments like yours (try not to get offended :). At least in the second video, she defined the paedophilia properly, because unfortunately, most people don't even know what that means. It only applies to preadolescence, once puberty kicks in, by definition it's not paedophilia any more (just an FYI) Sadly it all gets bunched together by uneducated media and individuals. I know, it's easy to get all self-righteous and jump on the ban-wagon (no pun intended :), I used to be that person myself, trying to highroad, whenever I got a chance, but then I grew up, and realized that there are all kinds of people, and before I turn my reptile instincts on, I should think and see all sides of the story. Oh, and before you try to take "you're probably a pedo" road, this is purely academic discussion for me. It's merely to open a dialog on some informed, intelligent level, if possible. No worries, I like 'em young, as much as the next guy, but not that young.
