Venezuela - WW3 - Will the U.S. Military Bring Democracy to Venezuela?

The next American War may come as a surprise when Venezuela becomes the next country this century to receive the American version of Democracy courtesy of the U.S. Military. In President Trump's own words in August of 2017,“We have many options for Venezuela and by the way, I’m not going to rule out a military option".

Over a year later the prospect of Military action against Venezuela still stands. In September of 2018 during the 73rd UN General Assembly, President Trump again made it known that using the Military to remove Maduro was a possibility. Individual sanctions were also levied against Maduro and his associates, as well as sanctions targeting Venezuelan financial transactions, and the state oil company PDVSA.

The U.S. Government's motivation for a Military strike in their view is to bring regime change against President Nicholás Maduro, and to restore Democracy for the people of Venezuela. It would seem the only reason Venezuela isn't Iraq 2.0 is the plan lacks support from Venezuela's neighbors. The AP reported,"The Mercosur trade bloc, which includes Brazil and Argentina, issued a statement saying "the only acceptable means of promoting democracy are dialogue and diplomacy" and repudiating "any option that implies the use of force."

I am not going to cover the politics of Venezuela, or whether President Maduro deserves to be deposed. The reason is that regardless of the facts, the U.S.Government's opinions and motivations are never clear. The U.S. Government has a reputation for using the expression "Bringing Democracy" to a countries people when the situation has very little to do with "Democracy". It usually ends with disastrous results. Iraq, Libya,and Syria are all countries nearly destroyed and made hell on earth. The U.S. Government frequently uses the Military as a hammer with "Democracy" as a pretext.

What is clear is that the actions against Maduro and Venezuela are textbook U.S. Government 21st century foreign policy. Sanctions by the U.S. are step one, and the first sign of severe trouble. Dropping the U.S. dollar in all your countries Oil transactions like Maduro did in 2017 is a death sentence. Saddam Hussien, and Muammar Gaddafi we're made global examples as to what will happen when you drop the U.S.dollar as the reserve currency for your countries oil trades. The U.S. President publicly stating that he is ready to use the U.S. Military to "Bring Democracy" to your country spells doom.
The New York Times also recently reported that the Trump Administration over a year secretly met with members of the Venezuelan Military to discuss options of a coup d'etat against Maduro.
I would have to say President Maduro has the full weight of the U.S. Government against him, and all the signs for a U.S. Military intervention are on the table.

The most interesting fact for a possible war with Venezuela is the country of Columbia which sits on Venezuela's southern border. In May of 2018, Columbia became the first Latin American country to become a full fledged member of NATO. If Venezuela threatens Columbia in any way, even if it's imaginary, it will not just be a U.S. Military conflict, but an all out World War with full NATO participation involving all of Western Europe.

The addition of Columbia to NATO did not sit well with Venezuela. A statement by Venezuela's
Foreign Ministry: "Venezuela denounces once more before the international community the intention of Colombian authorities to lend themselves to introduce, in Latin America and the Caribbean, a foreign military alliance with nuclear capacity, which in every way constitutes a serious threat for peace and regional stability," a statement by the foreign ministry said."

In late September 2018 Vice President Mike Pence took to Twitter and made the following statement: News reports today that the Maduro regime moved military troops to the border of Colombia—an obvious effort of intimidation. Let me be clear: the USA will always stand with our allies. The Maduro regime would do well not to test the resolve of @POTUS or the American people. #UNGA". The Venezuelan Military's response to the troop deployment on the Columbian border was that they were there to Combat Drug Trafficking. With the amount of Venezuelan people reportedly fleeing the country, Most countries that border Venezuela have dispatched their military for refugee control.

The truth is this. President Nicholás Maduro, regardless if he is a Saint or a Tyrant is following in the footsteps of Sadam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi. The U.S. Government has Maduro marked for regime change by any means necessary. With Columbia as a NATO member, if a military action occurs the situation could go global. Venezuela also has the world's largest oil reserves which is an even more alluring prize for the U.S. Government , and the military industrial complex. The world can only pray that Venezuela does not become the next Iraq.
