Steem #News
Thank you for reading @newsagg. This is a news aggregator service for steemit. It is constructed daily by hand and does take some time. Many of us practically live on steemit now. As such we can often forget to check what is going on out there outside of steemit. This account was created as an attempt to help mitigate that some. This is experimental so the account will likely go through transitions as it is determined what is most useful to the community. Feel free to submit news tips as comments. They will likely not be looked at extensively until the next aggregation post to which they are most suited. We will try to limit the amount of these posts that we post each day to no more than 4, unless some breaking news warrants there should be more. With this account we will not do a lot of comment and reply unless it is necessary to verify or get further information on a tip. Those of us that work this account will use our personal accounts for interactions of a personal or opinion nature. We wish to remain free of bias and simply present the news on this account.

why is it a problem to have plastic in landfills?
seems like the perfect place for it.
Heh. Not sure. We can mine it from there in the future. I see it as a problem floating around in the oceans and water supplies, but landfills seems like the logical place for it.
why is small tiny bits of plastic not the same as dietary fiber?
LOL
Inquiring minds want to know. It would be an easy experiment in a small aquarium. If that's too expensive, one could always try the mark of a mad scientist, and test it on oneself.
i won't fit in a small aquarium.
Oh the big masses floating in the oceans and water that have conglomerated together are the problem, and they are killing off life forms and such in the oceans.
EDIT: Though maybe something would evolve to live in the floating islands.
oh really?
I heard that was a myth.
you could be dead center in the middle of it and not know.
sunlight degrades plastic PRETTY quick. Makes it break down into itty bitty tiny pieces.
Some plastic it does. Others it doesn't.
Many natural and synthetic polymers are attacked by ultraviolet radiation, and products using these materials may crack or disintegrate if they are not UV-stable. The problem is known as UV degradation, and is a common problem in products exposed to sunlight
Eventually, the pieces of plastic will become small enough to be consumed by microorganisms, which are able to metabolise it and convert it to carbon dioxide (CO2) or absorb it into their own biomolecules.
Yeah I know most plastics degrade in sunlight. :) Anyone that has been around long enough to own some plastic materials should be aware of that. I do think they likely ALL degrade in some way as the decoloration is a sign of degradation.
The mass of plastic floating in the oceans isn't an agglomeration, but tiny suspended particles. Overall it's a lot of material, but it isn't in one piece, or large pieces at all.
Crap... I didn't get my good post in on time!
Can always link to it in a comment.
Have you heard that Microsoft is buying GitHub?
Nope. Not a fan of the big mega corps just gobbling up smaller entities and becoming bigger but that seems to be the modus operandi all over the place these days.
That's bad news... a lot of people use GitHub and likely won't like the changes!
Did you hear about Bayer merging with Monsanto? They are going to ditch the name Monsanto since it is universally known to be responsible for some nasty things.
Of course Bayer being part of IG Farben is squeaky clean. One thing I could never figure out... during WWII, you could still buy Bayer aspirin.
Thanks for the information and news sir.
7 to 2 is a "narrow" margin? In what universe does that work? @ironshield
