February 12 march to demand the entry of humanitarian aid

The people of Venezuela, summoned by its leader and president in charge of the Republic Juan Guaidó, are preparing to march on Tuesday to demand that the military ignore Nicolás Maduro's order to prevent the entry of US humanitarian aid.

Guaidó, recognized by half a hundred countries as interim president, called for demonstrations throughout the country when it will celebrate Youth Day "to send a message" to the Armed Forces.

He said: "We will be mobilized throughout the country to get humanitarian aid in to help deal with the crisis."

Food and medicine sent by the United States remain since Thursday at a collection center in the city of Cucuta, Colombia, near the Tienditas border bridge, blocked by Venezuelan military with two containers and a cistern.

Maduro, who denies that there is a "humanitarian crisis", rejects the aid because it is considered the beginning of a military intervention by the United States, as well as a "political show".

It blames US sanctions for the shortage of food and medicine that, along with hyperinflation, overwhelms Venezuelans. Some 2.3 million emigrated since 2015, according to the UN, due to the worst crisis in the recent history of the oil country.

Press releases indicate that the government sent elite police forces to Tachira, a border state with Colombia, on the eve of the march.

The opposition mobilization will also honor the dead, some 40 according to the UN during riots since January 21.

"We will continue mobilized"

Guaidó is the interim president since January 23 after the Parliament declared Maduro "usurper" for having been reelected in contested elections inside and outside of Venezuela.

Humanitarian assistance this week focuses its offensive to get "cessation of the usurpation, a transitional government and free elections."

We will continue to mobilize to save lives with humanitarian aid, is what Guaido has indicated, who has the decisive momentum of the United States and a growing support of the European Union (EU) and Latin America.

At the same time, its team of collaborators in Washington is organizing an international conference on Thursday at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) to "sensitize" governments, multilateral organizations, companies and NGOs on aid to Venezuela.

More than 20,000 volunteers signed up, according to the opposition, to assist in the process of entering the assistance. According to Guaidó, other collection centers will be opened in neighboring Brazil and on a Caribbean island to be defined in the coming days.

Trying to fracture the Armed Forces, the backbone of the government, the 35-year-old opposition leader has warned the military that preventing the entry of food and medicine is a "crime against humanity."

However, the military leadership continues to profess "absolute loyalty" to Maduro. On Sunday, the Armed Forces began five days of exercises throughout the country, to face an eventual invasion of the United States.

"There will be no empire that dares to touch the territory of Venezuela," said the socialist president, when inaugurating the maneuvers.

Guaidó warned on Friday, in an interview with AFP, that he will do "what is necessary" to achieve "cessation of the usurpation" and "save lives", without ruling out that Parliament authorizes the intervention of a foreign force.

The government of Donald Trump, with which Venezuela broke relations on the grounds that it is behind a coup d'état, does not rule out the use of the army in Venezuela.

The United States proposed to the United Nations Security Council a draft resolution on Venezuela in which it is asked to facilitate humanitarian aid and to commit to presidential elections, a text that Russia opposed, according to diplomatic sources.

In addition to Moscow, Maduro has among its allies Turkey, Iran and China, although Beijing - which Caracas owes about 20,000 million dollars - has said that it maintains contacts with all parties.

While the tension grows, there is no possibility of dialogue, since Guaidó says that the government has used negotiations with the opposition before to gain time.

Meanwhile, the economic collapse continues to deepen. From April 28, the United States will seize oil sales in the North American market as part of its sanctions to the country, whose budget depends on 96% of crude oil.
