After being organized, communicated and ordered. On February 23 we will have to go in caravan and in protest to receive humanitarian aid. From today we will accompany all sectors to organize.

Multitudes of Venezuelan opponents demand that the military not block aid

Tens of thousands of Venezuelan opponents, summoned by their leader Juan Guaidó, marched on Tuesday to demand that the Armed Forces not block US humanitarian aid, considered by President Nicolás Maduro the door to a military intervention.

Waving national flags, chanting Freedom! And Guaidó!, Opponents protested throughout the country. In Caracas, they met in the east around a stage where the 35 year old parliamentary leader will give a speech, recognized by some 50 countries as interim president.

The struggle for power between Guaidó and Maduro centers this week on humanitarian aid. Food and medicines have been stored for five days in a collection center on the Colombian side of the border with Venezuela.

Two huge cargo containers and a cistern block the Tienditas bridge, which connects Cúcuta (Colombia) and Ureña (Venezuela). Women dressed in white, doctors and social activists plan to approach the site, where the military presence was reinforced.

The tension occurs in the midst of an economic meltdown, with a shortage of medicines and unpayable food for the majority due to hyperinflation. Some 2.3 million Venezuelans (7% of the population) fled the country because of the crisis since 2015, according to the UN.

The opposition marches, on the Day of Youth, also remember some 40 dead who left riots and protests against Maduro in January, many of them young.

Seeking to break the Armed Forces, support of the government, Guaidó offered amnesty to the soldiers who do not know Maduro and warned them that stopping the passage of food and medicine is a "crime against humanity".

But the military leadership echoed the qualification of "political show" that Maduro gave to humanitarian aid. This week, the military exercises before an eventual armed action not ruled out by President Donald Trump.

Maduro denies there is a "humanitarian emergency" and blames the lack of medicines and food for an "economic war" on the right and harsh US sanctions.

Meanwhile, on Thursday there will be a conference on humanitarian aid, requested by Guaidó, at the headquarters of the Organization of American States.

While Maduro has the support of Russia, Turkey, Iran, China, Bolivia and Nicaragua, Guaidó has the decisive momentum of the United States and the support of Latin America and the European Union.

The United States proposed a draft resolution before the United Nations Security Council for Venezuela to facilitate humanitarian aid.

But Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Russia would never support such a decision as an excuse for direct military intervention. Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel called it an instrument of aggression.

Washington, with which Caracas broke relations to support Guaidó, seeks to suffocate the government and from April 28 will embargo the vital export of Venezuelan crude to the US market.

Maduro told the BBC that his country has 80 tons of gold deposited in England and he hoped it would not be confiscated.

Venezuela is in the eye of the world's geopolitical hurricane.

In New York, the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, offered Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza to help in a negotiation.

But Guaidó says he will not dialogue even through the Vatican, because he assures that Maduro manipulated the negotiations in the past to perpetuate himself in power.

The International Contact Group , from European and Latin American countries, also advocates for a peaceful exit through presidential elections, which Maduro rejects. Although he did not recognize Guaidó as interim president, Italy said on Tuesday in favor of elections "as soon as possible."
