Vote for the man who promises least; he'll be the least disappointing.

That is a show of wisdom from Bernard Baruch and the perfect quote to represent what politics truly mean when African nations are concerned. I do not mean to insult the black race, after all I am a black man. But the truth is blacks' mentality is magnificently retarded and selfishness is what is ruling us.

How did politics originate and what exactly is politics all about?

I asked myself the above questions moments ago and that prompted me to write this article. Well, this is a very huge topic and it may takes me couple of posts to cover it but I think it is best to start this way.

Politics according to Wikipedia, "is the process of making decisions that apply to members of a group. It refers to achieving and exercising positions of governance — organized control over a human community, particularly a state". In another word, politics is the activities associated with the governance of a country or area, especially the debate between parties having power. So in a nutshell, politics is refers to as activities regarding how a certain country, city, town, organisation or group is governed with respect to certain positions which are given the right to make decisions over others.

According to Quora, the word "politics" is a Greek word and its origin could be traced back to about 2,368 years ago (that is 350 BC) in a book titled POLITICS by Aristotle and Grolier Online and The New Book of Knowledge as referenced by Scholastic made us understand that political parties did not begin to develop until the late 1600s. Although the ancient Greeks started what we call politics today, they had no organised political parties. The real or better still, modern politics which are adopted and used today began in England after what was called the Popish Plot of 1678.

Political parties were created and the game started in a decent sense. Since then, politics has been regarded as a dirty game - tricky in nature and politicians are well respected with their cunning nature.

You can read more about politics and how it originated oon Wikipedia.

Politics in Africa

Okay, it is in nature of human to sought after what benefits him and look for selfish interest. Being a dirty game, politics cannot be well defined when lies and deceit are excluded. It is the fact we must accept. But Africans' mentality is way too absurd. It is far beyond being reasonable and it is why we can never get to the mighty heights of other continents.

Of course, some of the Westerners and European politicians are also selfish but African politicians are just out of their leagues. The thing is even when an African leader suddenly start working on the development of his state - provide good roads; uninterrupted electricity, job employments and all that, the citizens know fully well that something is fishy. An African leader will only repair the damaged roads just to loot public funds into his pocket.

African leaders look after themselves and their family members and whatever happens to the mass is out of their concern. There is this mentality that "the public funds is a national cake, you just need to get to the seat of power and cut your share".

The lack of political and patriotic will on the part of Africa's largely corrupt political and business leadership is what is killing us.

There is more to this. I just need to take a break. To be continued.
