What The Hell Did I Just See on This Government Video!!?

in #informationwar6 years ago

I actually checked to make sure that this wasn't some parody website/video. I came across this video after reading an article by E.B. Tucker. You can read the captions here and watch the video here. It is the official website of the Customs and Border Protection of United States. Tell me if it doesn't sound more like a self-aware parody than an actual video that's meant to educate people.

Since they talk so much about this safety thing, I decided to get the worst pitchfork ever imaginable for any senseless organization/movement/idiot. I got myself a nice dose of research & facts.

Range Rover happens to be the luxury model.

A “safe” car according to U.S. law is one that adheres to DOT and EPA mandates. On the surface that sounds like good thing. The last thing we want is dangerous, mechanically-unpredictable vehicles running wild on our roads. But that’s not what the U.S. regulations do. In truth they limit your choices in the name of safety. The actual beneficiary is the automotive industry. In 1988 Congress passed a restrictive law limiting vehicle imports to a very narrow scope. An extensive list of prohibited features prevents many of the world’s most popular cars from touching U.S. soil. Mercedes lead the lobbying effort to get the 1988 law passed. The second hand auto industry calls it the “Mercedes Law.” It keeps scores of BMW, Volkswagen, Land Rover and other models common in many developed countries out of the U.S.

So basically we have lobbying, regulation and bureaucracy to thank for this mess. Where I'm livin The Defender is regarded as a highly reliable vehicle that many VIPs use. It's also greatly respected by anybody who goes on off-road driving.

The Worst Joke

When the vehicle is over 25 years old, suddenly it's safe for importing. You can drive it on the roads. Nobody is going to crush into a $30 piece of scrap. But a 24 years and 364 days old one gets scraped for the protection of everybody. Last time I checked vehicles (like all machines) got worse over time;not better.

Real Cases of Parody

Not Parody

There are things in this world that gives me a lot of hope. Steemit has many great articles and there are websites and YouTube to learn a lot of things and we are having a lot of progress. But it seems like the decline is also happening just as fast. It's almost like Homo Sapiens are splitting into two different species. Before I finish I'll leave you a final infograph on the effects of regulation. Read it and let that all sink into your head.

Happy Steeming!

I think you misunderstood, you can import a vehicle into the US newer then twenty five years, it has to be certified that it meets all environmental regulations, that means having a certified mechanic sign forms saying it's up to standards. The reason it's easier to import a vehicle older than twenty five years is that vehicles older than twenty five years weren't built with all the mandated environmental equipment you have now days. What the person who was importing the vehicle in the video was trying to do was take a vehicle that wasn't a vintage vehicle and turn it into one for profit.
