Surprise, Surprise - Eating 'ultraprocessed' foods accelerates your risk of early death, study says

in #informationwar5 years ago

The quick and easy noshes you love are chipping away at your mortality one nibble at a time, according to new research from France: We face a 14 percent higher risk of early death with each 10 percent increase in the amount of ultraprocessed foods we eat.

So what they are saying is if over half your daily calories come from fast food there's a very good chance you're going to die young.

"Ultraprocessed foods are manufactured industrially from multiple ingredients that usually include additives used for technological and/or cosmetic purposes," wrote the authors of the study, published Monday in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine. "Ultraprocessed foods are mostly consumed in the form of snacks, desserts, or ready-to-eat or -heat meals," and their consumption "has largely increased during the past several decades."

It seems like common sense if you want to live longer just avoid fast food but many healthier alternatives still have unhealthy ingredients like canola oil and MSG in them. Most folks don't realize is that most of these ingredients aren't necessary to make the food taste any better and some of these toxic chemicals are even addictive like MSG. MSG is just a cheap alternative to salt and it's an excitotoxin to make want to eat more of that food. Ramen noodles are complete garbage tasting noodles but the seasoning is loaded with MSG so people love to eat the crap out of them. I personally don't eat them anymore because I would get such bad headaches after eating them for the rest of the day and that's because of all the MSG in them.

I lost 40 pounds by avoiding fast food.

Last year I changed my diet and cut back on eating fast food like 90%. I went from eating it almost every day to maybe 2 or 3 times a month. I would eat fast food for lunch pretty much everyday at work and I work in an office so I'm not very active at work but I was riding my bike getting good exercise after work and my weight was still going up. So I finally got fed up and made a big change in my diet when I stopped eating lunch and avoided eating fast food altogether. I still ate garbage food for dinner like frozen pizzas, chips, ice cream etc. After a few weeks of this diet I started to really notice my waste line shrinking and the first 5 or 10 pounds lost I though was a fluke turned into 20, 30 and then 40 pounds lost. I've gained about 5 pounds back over the winter because I'm less active now but my diet is still going strong and I plan on losing another 20 pounds this summer.

My avoiding of fast food and losing a bunch of weight just really shows the problems with fast food in this country. I think one of the worst fast foods you could eat are french fries just look at the garbage ingredients in them.

TBHQ is chemical designed to preserve food aka not food. It has been linked to serious health problems.

According to the Centers for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), a well-designed government study found that this additive increased the incidence of tumors in rats. And according to the National Library of Medicine (NLM), cases of vision disturbances have been reported when humans consume TBHQ. They also cite studies that have found TBHQ to cause liver enlargement, neurotoxic effects, convulsions, and paralysis in laboratory animals.

Dimethylpolysiloxane is an anti foaming agent. Again not food it just makes the deep firer safer to use.

a Science Direct article has noted that the chemical is notoriously detrimental to the respiratory tract if it is injected directly into a vein. The article notes that illicit dimethylpolysiloxane injection may cause acute pneumonitis, diffuse alveolar hemorrhage, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Other symptoms such as dyspnea, fever and cough as well as blood-stained mucus, hypoxia and altered mental status may occur within 72 hours following injection. According to the CDC, people who inhaled the chemical should go to an area with fresh air and rest.

The compound is also known to affect skin health. The CDC recommends removing clothing articles contaminated by the toxic ingredient and washing the skin area with plenty of water. Furthermore, the health agency stresses that dimethylpolysiloxane is potentially harmful to the digestive tract. The CDC states that ingesting the hazardous substance may result in nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The CDC discourages people from inducing vomiting. Instead, the health agency has emphasized that people exposed to the chemical should thoroughly wash their mouth with water.

Nasty stuff in our food here in American. Europe doesn't even put this crap in their fast food.

Just look at all the extra crap in American french fries compared to the UK. Is it really any wonder why we have an obesity problem in the country when we have extra preservatives and coloring agents that come with their own list of health side effects. The public need to be made more aware of all these garbage chemicals in our food making people unhealthy and sick. Food might be a little more expensive if we removed these preservatives and crap but it would probably pay off in the end with healthier people making less trips to the doctor.

Have you heard of the snake diet? Just a few weeks after my son’s t1d diagnosis, I found myself spiraling back into a food addiction. I found this guy on YouTube, and I’m going to try do a 48 hour fast to try break this darn addiction before it gets too far out of hand.

I'm basically doing an intermittent fasting diet. I eat in a six hour window everyday. The weekends not so much but fasting is very good for the body. I've tried fasting 24hrs once a week for a while but I found that hard to do.
