Prison Break as Over 200 Inmates Escape Confinement
Due to the poor security infrastructures in Nigeria, Prison Over 200 prisoners have escaped confinement at the Minna Medium Security Prison in Niger state on Sunday night.
According to police reports, the incident was orchestrated by unknown armed bandits who attacked the prison and gained access after a shoot -out with prison armed men.
An official who spoke to newsmen, who identified himself as Mr Shuaibu relayed that the incident had been abetted by some miscreants in the area.
“ At about 8 pm on Sunday, some unidentified armed men stormed the prison premises, they created a raucous after a shoot- out with the prisons officials. This led to the death of one prison official and okada rider who had dropped off an official,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police in Niger state also relayed to newsmen that only 19 out of the 219 prisoners that escaped were arrested.
“We are working in collaboration with other security agencies in Niger State to make sure that we re-arrest the runaway inmates.
“The police has embarked on stop and search for all vehicles and also engaged personnel on motor and foot patrol to ensure that we apprehend these inmates,’’ he said.
He further assured the general public of the intensified efforts to apprehend all run away inmates in order to create a safe society and advised them to be on alert of suspicious persons in their surroundings.
“The general public is hereby assured of its safety; and advised to go on with its normal business. At this juncture, we will like to urge all law abiding citizens to support the security agencies in maintaining law and order as security is a collective responsibility.
“We also advise that citizens should endeavour to report to security agencies any suspicious person or group of persons”, he said.
The government needs to up their games when it comes to security of life and properties of her citizens because with this break out now, the prisoners may go and regroup themselves for greater attackers on Nigerians
