The REAL X-Files

"I want to believe" was the subtitle for the 1998 movie "The X-Files", born from the popular tv-series with the same name. Dana Scully and Fox Mulder captivated large tv audiences as they played out stories on our screens inspired by one of the most persistent and popular conspiracy theories in existence; the government and it's secret agencies hide the truth about encounters with aliens right here on earth.

I must admit: I also want to believe. I remember one of Ronald Reagan's best speeches during the end of the Cold War, in which he imagined how quickly and willingly the world's super-forces would unite, if only the entire earth would be attacked or threatened by some invading alien force. This was somewhere in the late 1980s and back then I already was a big lover of anything to do with space, science and science-fiction. I hated Reagan's politics of laissez-faire markets and an ever shrinking role for the government, which he and Britain's Margaret Thatcher launched for the western world together. But I loved those speeches and he was the U.S. president that gave us a program named "Star Wars" which was my favorite movie franchise of those years.

But this isn't about Reagan or Star Wars, it's about the X-Files. Or rather it's about what happened on december 16^th 2017. This was in the middle of the Bitcoin surge to a price of almost $20,000.00, so some of you might have missed it. The New York Times published an article in which the U.S. government admitted that it ran a secret investigation on U.F.O. sightings for five years, from 2007 until 2012. The program received a 22 million dollar funding, the expenses of which were buried in the Department Of Defense's total budget of hundreds of billions of dollars. And the only reason given for ending the program was that other projects were given a higher priority and that the funds would be better spent elsewhere, not that the program concluded that there are no aliens to worry about.

On the contrary: also released to the public was footage, filmed by professional F18 Hornet fighter pilots, of a flying saucer shaped aircraft maneuvering in ways not attainable with currently known terrestrial technology. Take a look at the two minute video taken from a cockpit camera, as it shows a saucer-like object traveling at very high speeds while rotating at the same time:

This is quite remarkable. Not just the footage, but even more so the fact that both the government and mainstream media now suddenly admit something they both have for decades denied. Since the Roswell UFO incident there have been thousands of UFO sightings and all were ridiculed and denied. Now, eye-witness reports are not proof, not even if they are repeated many thousands of times. Not even when UFO's and aliens are described with uncanny similarity by completely unconnected witnesses, that's not definite proof of their existence, as our minds show us what we expect to see and the grey, big eyed aliens, as well as the flying discs are popular archetypal depictions of extra-terrestrial tropes that may well have a permanent fixture somewhere in our (collective?) subconscious minds.

Video and photographic evidence can be faked, so they don't count as proof either, not even when released by government officials and military professionals; sound can be faked to.

But... I want to believe. And so do a lot of other people, looking at the vast numbers of articles, blogs and YouTube videos about this alien conspiracy. And like I said: it is remarkable that the silence around the government's involvement in research into this phenomenon is broken after decades of actively feeding the public's skepticism on the subject by ridiculing, explaining away or simply ignoring every sighting in recent history. One thing's for sure: if this is not a government hoax and this is all real, the officials will have a lot of explaining to do for decades of secrecy to countless open and secret believers in UFO's and aliens. This goes for popular mainstream media also, who have done the governments job of covering it all up.

Either way the revelation is likely to provide some satisfaction to UFO enthusiasts, often dismissed as conspiracy theorists.

Nick Pope, who used to run the British government’s UFO project, said: "The take-home message here is that there’s probably something out there, but we don’t know what it is. It’s an extraordinary revelation, not least because it directly contradicts the many specific denials that the US government has issued previously when asked about this subject, and their involvement in it.

"It precisely reflects my own experience of this intriguing but frustrating subject with the British government. Like our US colleagues, we too denied – even to parliament – that we were undertaking secret studies into the UFO phenomenon and consistently downplayed the true extent of our interest and activity at the Ministry of Defence."

I encourage you to read the full article here. Also keep in mind that governments are not to be trusted, so keep an open mind on this for the time being. That's what I do at least; extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. And as much as I want to believe, this is not it... yet ;-) I'll leave it at that and leave you to make up your own mind about this sudden disclosure by the U.S. government. I just wanted to share this with you, and maybe read what you think about all this in the comments.
