Competition
A similar project that has the most mentions on the Internet is HEAL Bonds. However, all of the publications date back to 2016. The news section on their official website also stopped being updated in 2016. The latest post in their Twitter account was published on the January 12th. Another such project, Dermavir, completed their ICO on May 30th with as yet undisclosed results. We couldn’t find projects other than that. However, the discussion around this specific application of blockchain has been around for a while now.
As for the proposed therapy itself, Innovative Bioresearch estimates that their treatment will be cheaper than the now widely used antiretroviral therapy (ART), as well as than any gene therapy using modified autologous cells offered by their competitors. This remains subject to investigation by medical experts.

We could only find two projects that are building upon the same model that implies blockchain as an instrument to fund HIV research: one that looks half-abandoned and another one with yet unclear results. Innovative Bioresearch wants to allow you to exchange their tokens for cars, which is interesting, unusual and a bit controversial. Their public token sale has been live since May 1st and will be running through August 1st. Typically, ICO projects have more following at the point when they launch public sale which is not the case with Innovative Bioresearch that only has around 500 followers on each social platform. We believe that this is due to the lack of marketing and PR, because the company doesn’t even have a marketer or PR specialist. Therefore, we would strongly advise Innovative Bioresearch to put more effort into promotion, so that their overall warmly welcomed initiative doesn’t go unnoticed.
