How many Outstanding people do you know with unique and distinctive characteristics? They're different. I belive one of the greatest compliment anyone can receive is for someone to walk up to you and say "you're different! " I'm not suggesting that you be weird for weirdness's sake. Be yourself, and you will stand out.
Don't be a living custard. Its true what Eric Hoffer said:

When people are free to do as they please, they usually imitate each other

This quote is true, in our contemporary times, we have so many imitators from the original thinkers; people often want to use other people's ideas and Knowledge to succeed in their own way, but this is very wrong. There's enough space in the air to spread your wings and fly the way you like! Don't be awestruck by other pwople and try to copy them. Nobody can be you as efficiently and as effectively as you can. One of the hardest thing about climbing the ladder of success is getting through the crowd of copies at the bottom.
The number of pwople who dont take advantage of their talents is more than those who really take advantage of their talents they scarcely have. Recently, I've seen so many CEO'S imitating themselves and their companies. This span from cars even to mobile phones! The truth about imitation and copying other people is just that it cannot stand the test of time.
So after knowing about imitation, what lets look at the how to stop it.

Antidote for imitation

One of the antidote for imitation is to believe in yourself! You are a specialist. You are not created to be all things to all people. More than 90% of all flowers have either an unpleasant odor or none at all. Yet it is the one with the a sweet fragrance that we tend to remember. Standout!

Another antidote for imitation is to think genuinely: many people find it difficult to do this, so they settle for the least but however they can actually do more than what they settle in for; people make cemeteries of their lives by burying their original ideas and talents and settling for someone else's idea. These abilities are like deposit in our personal accounts, and we get to determine the interest. The more interest and attention we give them, the more valuable they become.
The copy adapts himself to the world, but the original tries to adapt the world to him. It doesn't take a majority to make a change-it takes only few determined originals and a sound cause. I agree with the old saying that says: " You're the only one in all of creation who has your set of abilities. You're special ,..you are rare. And in all rarity there is great worth."

And the last antidote for imitation is to be creative. Creativity isn't something we perfect in few hours ..it may take longer than we expect, just be patient and wait , even if it takes years...but one thing is sure, the end result will always be original!
This quote by A. Whitney Griswold about creativity is true. Creativity doesn't spring forth from group, but rather it comes as a result of constant work and patience toward perfecting a particular talent/gift

"Could Hamlet have been written by a committee, or the Mona Lisa painted by a club? Could the New testament have been composed as a conference report? Creative ideas do not spring from groups. They spring from individuals." -A. WHITNEY GRISWOLD-

Speaking of creativity reminds me about the birth of Bibendum( the Mechelin tyre Man), which was done out of pure creativity and the end result stood the test of time 1898-2018 (120 years )

It happened at the Lyon Universal Exhibition in 1894, when the two Michelin brothers noticed an evocatively-shaped pile of tyres on their stand. Édouard said to André, “Look, with arms it would make a man.” André Michelin would remember this moment a few years later. It took about 4 years for this creative inspiration to be perfected ! It was In 1898, when looking at an advertising sketch for a brasserie drawn by O’Galop, André Michelin had an idea:Replacing the bearded giant raising his beer mug with a man made of a pile of tyres and holding a cup filled with nails and broken glass, this was how the Bibendum became the trade mark of Michelin.
Today, 120+ years after his birth, Bibendum stills appears all over the world. The character’s sportive nature is often symbolised through this famous attitude of the racing Michelin Man.

Bibendum ( the Michelin man) has helped the company to run adverts since 1898. The uniqueness of the creativity alone contributed to the huge success recorded by the Mechelin brothers . Making the michelin company the world's first producers of pneumatic tyres.

From 1907 to 1915, the Agenzia dei Italia Pneumatici Michelin published a monthly review sent to its customers by post. It copied the fun but educational format of the “Michelin Mondays” in France. Particular care was taken with the cover illustrations, which naturally involved the Michelin Man.
This michelin man story inspired me in so many ways. Everything we need to be creative is all around us. Each of us has our own unique, individual way. There are no precedents; you are the first you that ever was . You are the most qualified person on the face of the earth to do what you are destined to do.
I wil conclude with this post from Henry Ford.

"The whole secret of a successful life is to find out what is one's destiny to do, and then do it." - Henry Ford
