Down The Deep Dark Web

This film from Tzachi Schiff and Duki Dror is about the dark web, what it is, how to access it, who are the players, and why it it is needed. It is presented as a tour of discovery, as Tzachi finds out how to use the dark web, and then starts talking to some of the people who are operational on it.

The dark web has come to be associated with illegal activities, because of online marketplaces like Silk Road, but in many parts of the world it would be better called the open web, as it is the only place people can talk and exchange without governments and others having access to what they are doing.

There have been so many data breaches lately as hackers attack the large data honeypots, that privacy is finally getting the recognition it always deserved. We hear about the revelations that came through the exposure of the NSA surveillance programmes, and how that affects us all.

The film also looks at the history of the cypherpunk era, how they predicted many of the evils that have befallen our societies, and briefly looks at bitcoin and blockchain technology, and how it is being used to give power back to individuals so that they control their finances and data.

Towards the end the film also looks at the prospects for the future, as more and more things get connected together via the web, and how that might affect the way we are able to relate with each other in times to come.
