Message to Alex Jones sympathisers.

We live in miraculous, magical times. Information can reach across the world in seconds, we all have friends every where on the globe. There are countless modes of communication and interaction available to all of us, unnumbered venues for any type of speech or interest imaginable. People with nothing more than a telephone can become wealthy and amass millions of followers from their bedroom. Gangs have beautifully maintained and curated websites, diaper fetishists plan meet-ups at Denny's.

If you think anything Alex Jones has suffered in the last week amounts to anything that should trigger even the most mild concern over speech rights or corporate control of communication, you are OUT YOUR FUCKING MIND.

There are fucking Nazis on Twitter. NAZIS. Alex Jones had to behave so odiously that the administrators of Twitter thought he was worse than people whose main mode of interaction on the platform is posting HOLOCAUST JOKES.

And he did. Alex Jones and his followers regularly use the platform to harass the PARENTS OF CHILD VICTIMS OF MASS SHOOTINGS. Literally harassed people from town to town. Alex Jones was 100% responsible for all of that. He targeted people, people going through the worst tragedy anyone can suffer, and publicly tormented them to put a few bucks in his pocket.

Now, if I get this straight, some of you people think I'm supposed to be angry about a business wanting to put a stop to that? A business whose entire business model is based on human interaction, discourse, and community?

The motherfucker still has an enormous, functioning website with millions of fans. Twitter and Facebook have not even banned his content. They shut down ONE PROFILE. His fans can still post his content, his employees could post his content on the two sites. He could start another profile and post his own damn content. He lost a damn profile. That's it.

It is absolutely impossible to shut anyone up on the Internet. Not only can anyone who has been banned from a given site, or even several of the major sites, start their own site, there are still very large venues for communicating anything you want. Steemit or any of it's derivative platforms maybe? Alex Jones has been banned from three or four big sites leaving him with nothing but THE ENTIRE FUCKING INTERNET.

And I'm supposed to be concerned about free speech?

This isn't about political speech. Like I said, there are fucking Nazis making Holocaust jokes on twitter. /coughs Richard Spencer /coughs. Alex Jones is a serial harasser of really unimaginable malevolence and an unrepentant, pure liar with literally zero interest in anything remotely approaching actual politics or discourse. Twitter and Facebook and Google have a right to protect their users from him.

In 2018, the idea that banning or suspending someone from a website amounts to anything but a minor inconvenience to their ability to spread their message is fucking ridiculous. This is nothing, this is taking out some smelly trash. Get a grip on yourselves, crybabies. Wake me up when fucking Richard Spencer or Glenn Greenwald or Charles Murray or Noam Chomsky catch a ban and maybe I'll start being concerned.
