Why You Should Be Part of a Local Tourism Business.

I just got to know about the ‘introduceyourself’ post after I have posted a beautiful piece on ‘the Chronicles of a Survivor’ (a true story on how my wife made it through a complicated childbirth) in Steemit Credit but that's by the way. I didn't know about the introductory post but I'm doing that now. Being a new member in Steemit is exciting but making an intro is ecstatic. I'm Chukwu Ifeanyi, an engineer, a consultant and an adventourist. I believe that life is short and should be explored at maxim by having fun,going on adventures and tours, enjoying every moment of our lives.

Some weeks back, after an arduous supervision of an engineering project, I decided to take a tour at the OMU Resort, Lekki - Lagos. While on tour I took a photo of a roaring Lion – Panthera Leo, the king of the Jungle, Credit, a Chimpanzee - hominoid simians Credit, an ostrich -Struthio camelus, the largest flightless bird in Africa, and many other animals. I also, visited a scary cave too.

In as much as I enjoyed this adventure, I feel that tourism may not be the broad solution to helping local economies, but it is certainly a huge part of it. If you have a small business, no matter where it is located, your business and your community can benefit. Tourism needs varieties of businesses from products to services, from retail food to rentals and more. If you are creative! You can build a business or grow an existing one simply by being mindful of the relationship between tourism and local business. You may want to know the magic, answering the questions below will help;

 Why should I have interest for local tourism?
If you have a small business in a place with tourist attraction, you can benefit in a number of ways. For example, you can grow your business and build collaborations with other commercial enterprises which will endure past the main vacationer season. In addition, you will be helping your local community become self-developing and a travel destination for visitors. This in turn boosts the economy for natives of your community.

 What if I do not live in a tourist-attraction area?
Believe it or leave it, almost every place on earth can be targeted as tourist sites. Primarily, is to think about what your location has to offer. There will certainly be a class of folks who want to experience it. Extreme terrain, weather, landscape, water-bodies, physical taxation, a place only few have seen, are all there is. Thus, no matter your location, there’s something about where you live and work that others desire. The best thing is to try and work with other businesses to develop it. Travelers like myself, often want to experience “authentic” local flavor; whatever that may be (food, topography, activity, and scenery). You can create a website and target the “unseen places” in the tourism industry.

 What kind of business can benefit from tourism?
From research and personal experience virtually, all kinds of business can create a niche for hem selves in the industry. These industries, I.T, hospitality, food, management, financial instructions, engineering, entertainment, arts, sports, etc. The University of Wisconsin Center for Community Economic Development further validates this that “tourism strengthens a community’s retail base. Communities that sell to tourists have significantly more retail establishments and divers mix of products and services”. Hence, practically any type of business can benefit from local tourism. Finally, tourism is a tool for economic development and it creates jobs and increase national GDP.

No matter what your business is, local tourism will benefit it. If your town has not began to focus on attracting travelers, then you can initiate it. Sometimes the profits don’t come like ‘boom’, it may take 2-5 years before you see the breakthrough. Benefiting is inevitable. So, start today and do amazing things.
