Hi, N00b here and this is my view on SteemitsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #introduceyourself6 years ago (edited)

I want to introduce myself by giving my opinion on Steemit, the steem blockchain and other issues, I think giving an honest opinion gives the other party a good idea of the kind of person you are. I’m a software engineer, a trader and sometimes a teacher.

My view on Steemit as a software engineer

As a software engineer I really like the idea of cryptos, ICOs and well… Steemit; Steemit is a simple platform, this makes sense since it’s a beta and it’s a young platform, but it has tons of potential, and will grow exponentially to become a high quality content social network and blogging platform. I don’t think Steemit will substitute tweeter or facebook, nor will it remove the existence of personal blogs, but instead will grow into something different and unique. There are several reasons for this:

  • Steemit encourages the creation of high quality content. Both by keeping the data in the blockchain and by paying for that high quality content.
  • You need some degree of effort to join the steem blockchain and Steemit. Many of us may not have noticed this fact since were familiar with computers and cryptos, but many users of Facebook, tweeter and so forth are young people, teenagers, and people inexperienced in dealing with modern technologies, for those people the registration process of Steemit or working with a blockchain is too complex. This fact automatically culls many “bad” users, and keeps Steemit as a platform for high quality blogging. Somehow some trolls still appear every now and then, but mods nuke them pretty quickly in my opinion.
  • Steemit rewards users for their actions and decisions, but not in a free unlimited way. Unlike facebook or tweeter where you can just like whatever you see in your feed, here in Steemit you actually need to give it some thought, at least in the beginning.
  • Tagging system allows for exceptional content per tag. In the shorter term the posts that will dominate the trends and the tags are those made by the whales, those with economic power (this is a fact that will keep happening due to current human society structure) and those with an exceptional high quality... but as more tags appears and more users join, there will be no such clear separation and users will have more high quality content to enjoy according to their interests. I’m going to give a wild guess, but I dare to say that most of the Steemit userbase has some connection to cryptos, software development or blogging. As such, most of the content is related to those areas, but as more users joins, more tags will appear and more high quality content will appear on those tags.
  • Stricter rule enforcement. While all social media platforms allow for flagging of content and reporting abusive content, in Steemit the rules are stricter and the mods more active (possibly due to not having a billon userbase). This is good; rules are good, a society without rules is just anarchy and chaos, but the fact remains that users aren’t rewarded for helping with the enforcement of rules. A good example is the fact that flagging content or downvoting content doesn’t offer any kind of incentive, I myself have found terrible posts that I’ve decided to ignore instead of flagging them or downvoting them in order to avoid wasting my voting power, I just leave a comment instead.

So, mostly due to those factors I believe Steemit will grow to something more unique and will offer a great niche way to enter into both the crypto world and to the blogging world.

My view on steem and SBD as a trader

Now… as a trader and as an investor I believe the steem blockchain and the SBD have quite a lot of potential. ICOs need to be treated like penny stocks, and penny stocks usually form a small userbase, then explode in price and eventually price corrects to a fair value, most investors decide that the stock will fail and abandon the ship, and in fact most penny stocks go bankrupt, but those that survive the initial price correction usually last for decades and investors who believe in them are rewarded handsomely, Google, Coca Cola and McDonald all started as small companies and their stocks were worth cents, today their stockholders are millionaires. See the resemblance here:  That's toyota on 1973, Weekly view, see how price explodes up, then corrects?, nowadays toyota is worth 50 times more PER share, the same will happen to most ICOs. The bitcoin bubble exploded quite dramatically  creating huge waves that will likely affect cryptos until at least 2020, it’s really impressive that cryptos have evolved and thrived even after such a huge negative impact. Now, the issue is that ICOs provide services and the value of them are determined by two main factors: the need for that service and the supply and demand of such a service. Investing in an ICO, either by directly getting involved or by buying them is risky; and we will need to have a lot of belief and patience in the services provided by that ICO. As such steem is a powerful ICO, since it provides an excellent service that can grow exponentially, other cryptos like bitcoin are less good for investment purposes, since the uniqueness of bitcoin has faded thanks to other cryptos appearing, I will make another post focused on crypto investment soon explaining what elements we should look before investing in a crypto and what investment means in this context.

My view on Steemit as a teacher

Finally, as a teacher I like to post articles explaining many things and helping people, but rarely get any sort of appreciation; I don’t really teach people expecting any sort of reward, since I do it because I like helping others, but it does feel good when others appreciate your hard work. My posts will be mostly educative posts, teaching about trading, cryptos, or other elements, and the Steemit platform encourages people to upvote and comment articles you enjoy. The only thing I would miss is direct communication, in tradingview.com I usually receive private messages from the people showing their appreciation and asking for more detailed stuff, in here I would need to be connected to an external chat for that kind of relation.

If you took the time to read this long introduction allow me to give you my thanks, please, don’t ignore the post and upvote or downvote it (or don’t vote at all to avoid wasting your voting power, though I will appreciate it) and leave a comment, I would like to meet other great like-minded people here.

Kind regards

Eilder Jorge

True what you said about not being easy to be on steemit if you dont know so much about computers but also true that there are a lot of trolls who are only here for the money and they learned how to use the basics and stay just for that, thank god for all the services that dedicated themselfs to keep the platform clean like SteemCleaners. i personally like the fact that the platform is such community center, if you want to survive in here you have to do networking or you will not success, so i like that very much.

In your views as a trader not being one myself i dont really get all the markets and stuff so dont have a comment on that lol, as a teacher you said you wish for more "direct communication"and i think you do have that here through the comments, maybe cause you are new and don't have many people following you dont see it, but as your followers grow you will see more of them commenting and that will give you what you want, is true the only thing missing in the platform is a private massage option but i think that has to do with the fact that even when you comment on a post you can get rewarded for it so it goes into the blockchain and everything in the blockchain is public, i dont know im just guessing.

Welcome to SteemIt hope you find it found to be here, such a great first post congrats!!

Thanks Victoria, see you on discord :), it's nice to see such a huge comment!!!. I don't see many trolls around here to be honest, just milkers and bad people overall, BAD people... and yes I hope that once I get some popularity I'll get lots of comments and meet lots of great people. And well, if you'd like to learn about markets and stuff, stay tuned for my upcoming posts, I already have a draft in word about 1600 words long explaining the dangers of trading cryptos and why we should invest in them instead...
