The strangest possible method to increase the rate your IQ by 10%

in #iq6 years ago

A new study in which participants learn to associate colors with letters, found that exercise increases the rate of their IQ by 12 points. The result was a surprise to scientists, who were mainly interested in the phenomenon known as "synesthesia."

Synesthesia is interesting condition in which the senses are crossed: it affects one in 23 people who report that they can "taste" words to associate colors with numbers and many other strange combinations.

Scientists from the University of Sussex wanted to see if they can train people to have similar experiences sinestetite. They made 9-week training course in which 14 participants learn the relationships between letters and colors. After training people not only learned connections between letters and colors, but are developed and relevant experiences.

A key component of synesthesia is that sinestetite these links themselves as sensory sensations. For example, they will see blue when consider the letter "b" will connect the letter "c" with a certain type of character.

The average increase in IQ of 12 points compared with the control group was unexpected, especially considering that this indicator is trained extremely hard. It is known that improvement occurs mostly in people with relatively low performance.

But participants in this study had relatively high: their average IQ has increased from 116 to 128. It is unclear, however, whether the improvement is due to training in synesthesia or general effect that people exercise their working memory.

The main conclusion from the study is that training of perception can lead to radically new ways of experiencing the world, said Dr. Daniel Pine, lead author of the study.
