Nel quartiere in cui vivo, a Torino, c'è il Santuario di Santa Rita da Cascia. Il Santuario si trova in Piazza Santa Rita e anche il quartiere prende il nome dalla Santa e si trova nella zona sud di Torino.

In the neighborhood where I live, in Turin, there is the Sanctuary of Santa Rita da Cascia. The Sanctuary is located in Piazza Santa Rita and also the district takes its name from the Santa and is located in the south of Turin.

É un bel quartiere, molto vivo, tanti negozi, il mercato, abbastanza pulito. A poche centinaia di metri da Piazza santa Rita c'è anche lo Stadio Olimpico, sede dei Giochi Olimpici Invernali del 2006 e attuale Stadio di Calcio del Torino.

It's a nice neighborhood, very lively, lots of shops, the market, clean enough. A few hundred meters from Piazza Santa Rita is also the Olympic Stadium, home of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games and current Turin Football Stadium.

Il Santuario di Santa Rita venne costruito tra il 1927 e il 1934, i lavori interni si protrassero fino alla metà degli anni '50. La struttura è molto particolare, la facciata è in stile neo-romanico medievale,ha un campanile acuto molto alto ed è rivestita in pietra di Credaro.

The Sanctuary of Santa Rita was built between 1927 and 1934, the interior work continued until the mid '50s. The structure is very special, the facade is in medieval neo-Romanesque style, has a very tall and high bell tower and it's covered in Credaro stone.

All'interno la Chiesa è divisa in tre navate e le pareti sono rivestite di marmi colorati. Appena entrati la Chiesa mostra tutta la sua bellezza, la navata centrale porta fino all'altare dove si può vedere un quadro di Santa Rita da Cascia.

Inside the church is divided into three naves and the walls are covered with colored marble. As soon as you enter the church shows all its beauty, the central nave leads up to the altar where you can see a picture of Santa Rita da Cascia.

Sulla destra e sulla sinistra ci sono le panche per i fedeli e le pareti delle navate laterali sono illuminate da bellissime vetrate che raccontano la vita della Santa e che lasciano entrare mistici raggi di luce.

On the right and on the left there are benches for the faithful and the walls of the side aisles are illuminated from beautiful windows that tell the life of the Saint and let mystical rays of light enter.

Ai due lati della porta d'ingresso due angeli reggono le acquasantiere e sul lato destro c'è la Cappella dedicata a Santa Rita, chiamata Cappella delle Grazie.

On the two sides of the entrance door two angels hold the holy water stoups and on the right side there is the Chapel dedicated to Saint Rita, called Cappella delle Grazie.

All'interno della Cappella c'è una statua d'argento di Santa Rita.

Al fondo della navata centrale c'è un bellissimo organo a canne. Su alcune colonne possiamo vedere dei mosaici colorati.

Bellissimo anche il soffitto sopra l'altare decorato con affreschi.

Alle spalle dell'altare maggiore, c'è una piccola galleria dove sono custoditi i quadri votivi.

Behind the main altar, there is a small gallery where votive paintings are kept.

Il 22 maggio ricorre la festa di Santa Rita e allora la piazza si riempie di bancarelle che vendono le rose. Santa Rita, secondo la leggenda, fece fiorire le rose con la neve.
Io non sono un credente ma mi piace entrare nelle Chiese, quando non c'è nessuno, per ammirarne l'arte e l'architettura e per assaporare il senso di tranquillità che si respira.

On May 22nd the feast of Saint Rita occurs and then the square is filled with stalls selling roses. Saint Rita, according to legend, made roses bloom with snow.
I am not a believer but I like to enter the Churches, when there is nobody, to admire its art and architecture and to savor the sense of quite that is breathed.
