Svezia - Inghilterra 0-2

Le reti

30' Maguire (I), 58' Alli (I)

Inghilterra (3-5-2): Walker, Stones, Maguire; Young, Lingard, Henderson (84' Dyer), Alli (76' Delph), Trippier; Sterling (91' Rashford), Kane
Coach: Southgate

Svezia (4-4-2): Olsen; Krafth (85' Jansson), Lindelof, Granqvist, Augustinsson; Claesson, Larsson, Ekdal, Forsberg (65' Olsson); Berg, Toivonen (65' Guidetti)
Coach: Andersson

31' Cheryshev (R), 39' Kramaric (C), 100' Corluka (C), 113' Fernandes (R)

Russia (4-2-3-1): Akinfeev; Fernandes, Kutepov, Ignashevich, Kudryashov; Zobnin, Kuziaev; Samedov (53' Erokhin), Golovin (101' Dzagoev), Cheryshev (66' Smolov), Dyzuba (79' Gazinsky)
Coach: Cherchesov

Croazia (4-2-3-1): Subasic; Vrsaljiko, (95' Corluka), Lovren, Vida, Strinic (72' Pivaric); Rakitic, Modric; Rebic, Kramaric (88' Kovacic), Perisic (62' Brozovic); Mandzukic
Coach: Dalic

Io vi do l'appuntamento alla prossima, stay tuned!

ENG

Good evening sporting friends and welcome back to my blog!

Here is the analysis of the third and fourth quarter-finals that will close this round and project us to the semi-finals where we will meet at this point the first 4 teams in the world.
The matches I'm going to go through are Russia-Croatia and Sweden-England both staged on Saturday.

So who are the last 2 semifinalists of the tournament? Let's discover it together in the next paragraphs, keep reading!

Sweden - England 0-2

This time the British are not surprised: in Samara, the Three Lions beat Sweden 2-0 and move to the semifinals.

The first half wasn't particularly lively because of the compactness of both defenses, which blocked the respective opponent's attacks by allowing little and nothing to pass through. Especially the Scandinavian defenders did a good job tightening the sides in order to prevent the transition of the British exteriors. However, after half an hour of play Southgate's men manage to break the ice: on Young's corner kick, Maguire with a header bags the ball into the net.
Sweden tries to make itself dangerous in some counterattacks, but it's England to push more on the accelerator, approaching the second goal on 2 occasions with Sterling (a bit selfish in both circumstances) before going to the interval.

At the start of the second half, a great Pickford save denied the joy of a goal to Berg: it was only a sporadic case, because the British besieged the goal defended by Olsen. So a little later comes the second goal by Alli. Sweden tries to react immediately but Pickford is on a day of grace and once again says no to his opponents with another valuable save. The rest of the match went on like this: the English pushed and created game impassioning Olsen, the Scandinavians suffered and tried to hit in counterattack, but Pickford decided that the goal would remain armored until the final whistle: 2-0 for England marks the scoreboard at the end of the match.

Mission completed for Southgate, semifinals secured. There have been definite improvements compared to the previous match against Colombia, especially on a psychological level: this time the boys have held up the tension and managed the advantage properly until the end. Now working to prepare for the match against Croatia, a tough opponent and difficult to defeat. It will be important to avoid going to the penalties: the Croatians have already passed this test twice in this tournament and the history of the British in this regard is not at all reassuring.

Andersson's boys' World Cup adventure ends with a disappointing undertone performance. Of course, England was favored and much stronger both tactically and technically, but the Scandinavians have not done anything extraordinary to prove the opposite and are therefore going out quite rightly.
I think that their fans can still be satisfied with the result achieved and can also be proud of this team that beyond everything has really put their heart into every single game.

Russia - Croatia 2-2 (5-6 after penalties)

A pure spectacle in Sochi: after the 2-2 in 120 minutes the challenge between Russia and Croatia is decided on penalties, with the Croatians passing the turn for the second time in a row.

Croatia seems to be in the game, it plays better than the during the game with Denmark by maneuvering the ball well and creating opportunities. Russia remains united, as it has always done since the start of the competition and prevents the Croats from piercing the penalty area. After a rather boring half-hour and without any major twists, the hosts themselves took the lead: the little jewel Cheryshev created a left-footed kick from outside the area whit which bagged the goal of the innocent Subasic. The joy of the goal lasted only 8 minutes because at 39' Kramaric restored parity. The first half ends 1-1.

In the second part of the game, the game becomes even slower and less spectacular, perhaps due to the result that forces both teams not to expose themselves too much. Just as in the first 45 minutes Croatia dominates the pitch and administers the ball, but fails to hit the well-organized Russian defense. The hosts, on the other hand, suffer the attacks of Mandzukic and his team-mates and the fatigue leads them to hide in their own half of the field and drag the match to extra time.

Only in the 30 minutes of extra time, the game becomes fun and full of opportunities, because of the tiredness that breaks the patterns and widens the jerseys. At the first juncture, Croatia took the lead with its replacement Corluka, who was diverting a header from his teammate Vida. Then, when everything seemed finished, just before the end of the second extra time Fernandes signed the 2-2 with a header: the game is decided on the lottery of penalties.

Decisive were, Subasic's save on the first penalty kicked by Smolov, and Rakitic's coldness from 11 meters on the occasion of the fifth penalty, which gave Croatia the second historic world semifinals in history.

The path of the boys led by Dalic is proving to be an ascending one, convincing every game more and more, the true revelation of this tournament. And doesn't matter if they have arrived so far thanks to two lotteries of penalties, the performance has been convincing and Subasic with his saves has shown that if they are now among the top 4 teams in the world is not just by chance or luck. Now they have to face the England of the various Kane, Sterling, and Alli, the Croatian defenders will have to work hard to resist the exuberant game of the British.

The Russian adventure in the domestic World Cup ends in the quarter-finals. A satisfactory result, in fact, the athletes were greeted with enthusiasm by thousands of fans, proud of the milestone achieved by their national team. Also passing the game with Spain was an achievement difficult to forget for them.

It will, therefore, be England - Croatia the second semifinal of this World Championship Russia 2018.

A match that sees two very agile and fast teams challenge each other, and they have come up here expressing a good football. On the one hand, we find the Balkans with a perfect midfield: Modric, Perisic, Rakitic, Brozovic which are full of talent and technique. On the other side, there are the British, a rather young team that has a unique and historical record in this competition: all 23 players are in the Premier League, demonstrating that the English championship is one of the most beautiful and competitive in the world.

As you can see the semifinals is a mini-European; moreover, in recent years the European Championships have far exceeded those of the rest of the world in quality and appeal, attracting more and more non-Europeans to come and play in our continent. In addition, the 4 teams are not used to being there at the top: only 2 World Cups have already been won, one by France in 1998 and one by the British in 1966. Both Croats and Belgians reached the semi-finals for the second time. History also tells us that in any case, the final of Russia 2018 will be unprecedented since none of the possible combinations has ever occurred in the past.

A final full of surprises awaits us and who knows, maybe we will see Croatia or Belgium raise the cup to the sky for the first time in the history of a World Championship. In the meantime, let's enjoy these 2 semifinals, scheduled today (France-Belgium) and tomorrow (Croatia-England) at 20. I'll see you at the next post, stay tuned!
