Imagine the shame as you are paraded through the city at a horse's pace. Imagine everyone's eyes gazing on you with judgement and fear.
Cruel criminal? Mentally ill? Wrongly accused? All were treated the same who entered the doors.

I agree. The public shame alone should have been a deterrent, but people keep doing bad things. Maybe some were swayed but unfortunately not all.
