What to do if your passport is lost or stolen in China.

I know this is not what every people goes through when you are in a foreign country. And you may think that this will not happen to you. However it is always good to know things and to think as “what if”. so...

1. Don't panic.
2. Search a couple of times and make sure it is not there because you cannot roll back if you find it after you have made a report to your embassy.
3. So, you searched everywhere you can think of and you are sure that your passport is gone for good, then go on to step 4.
4. Go to the closest police station. It is good to have a translator otherwise you may have a problem in language.
5. The police officer will start recording in video with audio and ask you questions like what was stolen/lost, where and when. If your belongings besides passport was stolen/lost then do say so. Report every small things that was stolen or lost.
6. After finishing a long conversation, the officer will tell you to sign and fingerprint seal the paper that has every word you and the officer talked written in Chinese and will give you a date (like a day after the report claim.) and time to come again to get your stolen/lost certificate.
7. Visit the police station on the day and time that you were told. The officer will give you your stolen/lost police report. This paper is very important so make a copy of it and do not lose it.
8. Now go to your embassy and tell them your situation. You will need to show them this police report. They may take the original paper from you.(this is one of the reason to make copies)
9. Your embassy will make a travel document for you. You will need to give this report paper to the Chinese Entry-Exit Administration Bureau too.
10. Before you go to Entry-Exit Administration Bureau you need to go back to your hotel and change your registration to your new travel document information. (When you check-inn the hotel will make a registration that has your information based on your passport and the Entry-Exit Administration Bureau needs to have your new travel document information same as to your staying hotel to process otherwise you will have to go back to hotel to do this and it will be a waste of time. You will need to receive a certificate from your hotel.
11. Now go to the Entry-Exit Administration Bureau and ask for help if you are alone. Since there will be a lot foreigners, you do not have to have a translator but it is wise to have one. (to make things go smooth) .
12. You will need to apply for an Exit visa.
13. You will be advised to fill a form, take a photo and wait for your turn.
14. At the Bureau you will be asked when you can depart China the soonest. Here, it is wise to prepare a ticket a printed one beforehand. Normally the process will take about 5 working days minimum so better to have it that will fly you back after receiving your Exit visa which will be sticked on your travel document.
15. After submitting every paper they need(travel document, police report, Air ticket, etc.) , all you have to do is to wait. Wait for 5 working days… this is long. So what you can do is to think that this is vacation gifted to you by God(if you believe) or just a temporary time/chance to know/think about your life and CHINA. You can also enjoy China for 5 days. Eat, go to places that you did not had it in your visit lists, talk with people you would not talk to.. get to know them, may be you will have a good thing...
16. Now, on the day you receive your exiting visa, you can fly back to your home country or any other destination.

• To go through these you must have CASH, CREDIT CARD, A WORKING MOBILE PHONE, INTERNET, and most of all, WECHAT!!!! This mobile application comes in handy! A great life saver if you are in CHINA, otherwise just any other applications like Facebook, whatsapp :)
• THE VERY MOST IMPORTANT RULE TO KEEP IN MIND IS… 1, DO NOT LOSE YOUR PASSPORT! 2, DO NOT LOSE YOUR PASSPORT. 3, DO NOT LOSE YOUR PASSPORT. IF YOU DID DO NOT PANIC. IT IS NOT AN END OF YOUR LIFE OR WORLD.

中国訪問中パスポート（旅券）を失った・盗られたらどうしますか。

普段他国を訪問中こういうことを経験することはないと思う。そして自分がまさかそうなるとも思わないだろう。しかしひょっとして、もしかって、を想像して知っておくことはためになると思う。では。

1. パニックを起こさないこと。
2. 思いつくところすべて数回確認すること。なぜなら、自国の大使館に紛失届をした後で見つかっても取り消すことはできない。（らしい）
3. では、思いつくところすべて何度も確認し、そしてパスポートが絶対なくなっていると確信取れたら４．を実行。
4. 最も近い警察署へ行き、パスポートの紛失／盗難にあったことを伝える。この時通訳ができる人を用意できればスムーズに会話ができるため、居たほうが良い。（英語はほとんど通じないことが多い）
5. 警察官は音声付き動画で録画を行い、何がなくなったか、どこでいつといった質問を聞く。パスポート以外にもなくなったものがあればそれも丁寧に説明する。どんな小さなことでも盗難・紛失にあったものなら伝えたほうが良いと思う。
6. 長い会話が終わったら警察官はそれまで質問し回答を得たもの全てが中国語でが記載されている紙を印刷し、そこに署名・捺印をするように求められる。そして再度そこに来る日付と時間を伝えられる。（例えば翌日とか）ポリスレポート（盗難届受理書）を受け取るため。
7. その日になったら警察署へ行きポリスレポートを受け取る。この紙は大変重要。このため複写（コピー）を作っておく。絶対になくさない。
8. この後自国の大使館へ行き担当者に状況を説明する。きっとこのポリスレポートも提出することになる。（このためにもコピーの作成が必要。）
9. 大使館は帰国のためにトラベルドキュメント・仮の旅券を作ってくれる。このトラベルドキュメントまたは仮の旅券を中国の入出管理局に提出することになる。
10. 中国の入出管理局へ行く前に宿泊しているホテルへ行き、ホテルに登録されている自分の情報を新しくもらった仮の旅券の情報に更新しておく必要があるのでホテルへ戻る。（ホテルに宿泊前にチェックインを行った際、その時に見せた旅券情報が登録されている、そしてその情報を中国の入出管理局が確認する。そこで、仮の旅券やトラベルドキュメントの情報と一致している必要があり、そうなっていない場合再度ホテルへ戻って手続きを行うことになる。時間の無駄になる。）このために仮の旅券を手に入れたらホテルへ戻り、情報を更新してもらい、その証明書も紙でもらう。
11. さて、次に中国の入出管理局へ行って、一人の場合は助けを求める。そこには外国の方々が沢山いるので英語の話せるスタッフも居るが、物事をスムーズに活かせるために通訳者を用意できればよし。
12. そこで出国用のビザを申請することになる。
13. 申請用紙に記入し、写真を取り、順番を待つように指示される。
14. 管理局での申請中にいつ中国から出国できるかも聞かれるので、予め出国用のチケットを用意しておくことは賢明。ただし、最短で手続き処理が終わるのは５営業日のようで、手続き終了時に出国ビザは仮の旅券に貼り付けられる。
15. 必要と言われた全ての書類（トラベルドキュメント・仮の旅券、ポリスレポート、航空券、等）を提出したら、後は待つのみ。５日間。これはとても長い。このためこれは神様に与えられたバケーションだと思いこむのか、それともこれは中国を知る/自分を知るための時間と思うのか。普段行かないところへ行き、出会う人々と話をし、良い過ごし方をされたほうが良い。もしかたらなにか良いことに繋がるかもしれまない。
16. さて、出国ビザがもらえたら、中国を出国することが可能となり、自国や目的地まで飛び立つことが可能となる。

• 上記をこなすためにはお金・クレジットカード・使える携帯・インターネット・そして何よりWECHATが必須となる可能性が高い。WECHATは中国にいる間はかなり便利。それ以外の時はfacebook の messenger や whatsappとなんも変わらないアプリとなる。
• もっとも、忘れてはならないルールは、１にパスポートをなくしてはいけない、２にパスポートをなくしてはいけない、３にパスポートをなくしてはいけない！もしそうなったら焦らない。それが起きたとしても人生と世の終わりでない。
