Feel close to God in nature なにごとの おはしますかは 知らねども

Saigyo(1118-1190), a famous poet and a Buddhist priest made a Waka(traditional Japanese poetry) when he visited Ise Shrine.

Ise Shrine is the most prominent in Japan and a quite sacred place.

なにごとの おはしますかは 知らねども かたじけなさに 涙こぼるる

"I do not know what there are, but something great exists there. I shed tears because I feel blessed by them."

In this song, the emotions of the moment he felt God in Ise's nature are expressed.

And I think that this song expresses the nature view and religious feeling of the Japanese.

My translation is not that good, but I hope you feel this feeling.

平安時代、僧侶であり、歌人でもある西行(1118-1190)が伊勢神宮で詠んだ歌です。

伊勢の自然の中に神を感じた瞬間の感情、それが見事に表現されています。

そして、日本人の自然観、宗教的感をズバリ表現している歌だと思います。
