굿모닝 베트남, 이른 아침 라디오 DJ 애드리안 크로너는 전쟁에 지친 병사들에게 이렇게 소리치듯 밝게 인사합니다. 이제는 고인이 된 로빈 윌리암스의 명연기를 통해 전해져 오는 전쟁의 실상은 그에게는 따뜻한 아침인사였습니다.
상부의 지시에는 아랑곳하지 않고 자신만의 자유롭고 인간적인 스타일로 방송을 해나가는 애드리안 크로너, 하지만 그는 군상부의 미움을 받게 되고 이내 곧 마찰이 일어나게 됩니다.
하지만 그의 방송은 전쟁중에 지쳐있던 수많은 병사들에게 따스한 감성과 위로를 전달하며 최고의 인기 프로그램으로 자리잡게 됩니다. 상부와의 끊임없는 마찰에도 불구하고 자신만의 방송 스타일을 고집하는 애드리안 크로너, 그에게는 상부의 지시보다, 참혹한 전쟁보다 더욱 귀중한 것이 있었습니다.
참혹했던 베트남전 이면의 모습을 비추는 카메라는 평화를 상징하는 곡과 매칭되면서 전쟁의 참상을 역설적으로 스크린에 옮기게 됩니다. What a woderful world, 전설적인 가수 루이 암스트롱이 부른 이 곡은 영화의 OST로 삽입되면서 그 음악적인 위상을 더욱 공고히 하게 되는데요.
애드리안 크로너가 곡을 소개하며 노래가 흘러나오는 장면과 루이 암스트롱이 곡을 직접 부르는 영상을 같이 올립니다. 진정 영화가 원했던 원더풀한 세상은 어떤 세상이었을까요.
