LANDSCAPE/SEASCAPE CONTEST WEEK #006

Halfway between Vancouver Island and the city of Vancouver, the ferry passes this pretty little lighthouse. Standing on the upper deck, the wind was blowing hard, and I had trouble trying to stand still long enough to take this photo.

If you are ever on this ferry, this is the place to look for Orca - the halfway point of the journey in what is known as Active Pass.

Just for fun, here's the same image in Black & White.

I just realized most of you don't know what kind of ferry I'm talking about. These are the vessels that connect us with the mainland.

Pictured above is the Queen of New Westminster. At 130 metres in length, she carries 1,330 passengers and 270 cars. When you're on the upper deck, you feel the ship vibrating and the wind gusting... this is why I used 1/1000 second shutter speed in the first shot. Just trying to squeeze off a quick shot with all the shaking and blowing going on. :)
