in #landscapephotography5 years ago (edited)

This is my entry for @axeman's Landscape/Seascape photo contest, week #16. Please see this post for all details.

I took this photo in Goldstream Park, just outside Victoria, British Columbia. Unfortunately, the original file for this photo has been lost and I no longer have the EXIF data... but I can say this was made with my Nikon D750 camera and a 24mm f/2.8 lens. Looking at the water, I'm going to guess this was a 1/4 second shot.

Just for fun, here's a timelapse I made of the same waterfall which shows just the top portion.

Update: I've just found the bottom half! (Faster frame rate)

Howdy sir Keith! how's it going today? Are you off today? Did you guys have a great dinner last night? Is it still unusually cold up there? It's raining here.

That's gorgeous and makes me wish for warmer weather! Have you gotten any snow up there? We got about an inch the other day, and they're promising more over the next week.

Thank you! Yes, we have about a half inch and we're supposed to get more this week.

It started snowing again here about half an hour ago. Looks like it means business.

Great waterfall shot and time lapse. flowing water photography can be so beautiful

Thanks a lot, Steven!

Wow, beautiful effect on the waterfall!

Thank you! That was probably shot at 1/4 second which smooths out the water like that. I wish I hadn't lost the original file with the data but I remember the lens, and the ISO would have been 100, so I can reconstruct most of this in my head. Probably shot at f/8.0.

I should stop seeing all these great pictures, they make me want to run to the next store and get a decent DSLR :))

The photo is incredible, but I am absolute sucker for timelapse! Especially waterfall. Absolutely marvelous Keith!

I have to learn how to do that too. Well I bought tripod as well, so guess that's a start, lol.

Thank you! Check if your camera has a built-in intervalometer, and if it doesn't you can buy an external one fairly cheap. I think this is what you would want: https://www.amazon.ca/Neewer-Shutter-Release-Control-Hasselblad/dp/B003WD0IKO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1549759608&sr=8-1&keywords=intervalometer+canon+t6i That thing, or something similar, will let for you activate the shutter every four seconds or so. Four seconds is what I use if I remember correctly. So then you have a bunch of still photos, like a hundred or so, and they can be combined to make a little time-lapse movie. Newer cameras may do all this for you, I don't know, but that's the general idea. You will want to use a tripod, so you're already halfway there! :-)

¡Que hermosas tomas! como siempre, reflejando la bella naturaleza en su máximo esplendor. El lapso de tiempo muestra el paso de la luminosidad del sol y hasta el movimiento de las aguas puede verse. Sencillamente encantadora. Gracias.

Haces tan buenos comentarios, muchas gracias!

Thank you @esteemapp!

Just fascinating what you can do if you know how and what equipment to use that is just absolutely amazing so refreshing to look at great job @keithboone :)

Thanks very much! I did this a while ago and I've been searching through a bunch of old files. I just updated the post with another time-lapse sequence which shows the lower part of the falls.

Awesome i will go over and have a look ....Cheers :)
